Overview

Senior Clinician Investigator

The Department of Medicine is seeking a senior clinician investigator (MD or MD/PhD) with an established, externally funded research program to join the faculty in the mountains of northern New England. We are looking for an investigator whose work addresses one or more of the following areas of strategic priority:

  • Rural Health Care Delivery Science: Research on how care is designed, delivered, measured, and sustained in rural and underserved settings, with attention to the structural barriers (workforce shortages, distance, limited broadband, aging populations) that distinguish rural contexts from urban ones.
  • Implementation Science: Research that closes the gap between evidence and practice, with particular interest in candidates who bring methodological expertise in hybrid effectiveness-implementation designs, adaptation science, and the study of how interventions succeed or fail when transported across health care environments.
  • Digital Health and AI-Enabled Clinical Interventions: Research on the development, testing, and deployment of technology-driven tools for clinical decision-making, remote patient monitoring, hospital-at-home models, or other digital innovations designed for real-world clinical settings.

We will also consider candidates with strong programs in adjacent or complementary areas of health services research, provided there is clear alignment with the department's mission to improve health outcomes for rural and underserved populations.

The successful candidate will hold a scientist position (Senior or Principal Investigator) at Dartmouth Health and an academic appointment (Full Professor) at the Geisel School of Medicine. This individual will contribute to the research, clinical, and teaching missions of the department.

The Physician will be responsible for supervising and providing necessary and desirable medical care within the Physician’s specialty to Dartmouth-Hitchcock patients, consistent with the policies and procedures of DHC, the facility at which care is rendered, and the directions of the Service Line Leader or his/her designee.

Responsibilities
  • Direct an actively funded clinical and translational research program with primary responsibility for securing and maintaining extramural support (NIH, VA, foundations, or equivalent).
  • Produce high-impact peer-reviewed publications as senior or corresponding author and present research at national and international scientific meetings.
  • Develop productive collaborations with faculty across the Department of Medicine, across Dartmouth Health, and with external partners to strengthen the department's research portfolio.
  • Contribute to the intellectual leadership of the field through study section participation, editorial service, guideline development, or policy engagement.
  • Participate in departmental, university, and public service as appropriate.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants should be senior faculty with a record of sustained scholarship, extramural funding, and demonstrated commitment to research mentoring.

Required

  • Terminal doctorate (MD, PhD, MD-PhD, DO, ScD, DrPH, or equivalent)
  • Qualifications for appointment at the rank of Full Professor at the Geisel School of Medicine
  • Active investigator with at least one current extramural award (federal agency, national foundation, or research network/consortium)
  • A national profile in the candidate's specialty or field of scholarship, as evidenced by society or association leadership, journal editorship or editorial board membership, study section service, national research collaborations, or significant awards and honors

Preferred

  • A career focus in health services research, health care delivery science, implementation science, or digital health
  • Relevant clinical training and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor early-career clinician-investigators, trainees, and medical students

Required Licensure/Certifications

- Current New Hampshire Medical License - Current or eligible for ABMS Board Certification (to be obtained within 5 years) - Active hospital staff membership

  • Area of Interest: Physician
  • FTE/Hours per pay period: 1.00 - 1.00 - 40 hrs/week
  • Shift: Day
  • Job ID: 38815
