Interim Fund Controller – Boston, MA
We are currently seeking an Interim Fund Controller to join a premier investment management firm based in Boston, MA. In this role, you will manage centralized functions and oversee the monthly NAV process for several hedge funds. You will collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners, including prime brokers, fund administrators, and auditors.
The ideal candidate will bring 3–5 years of experience in financial reporting, financial statement preparation, or auditing within an alternative investment or private equity environment.
This is a 3-month contract offering $60–$80/hour (commensurate with experience) for a 40-hour workweek. This role requires on-site presence five days a week.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee monthly NAV processes for multiple hedge funds, including review and sign-off of administrator-prepared NAVs
- Support recurring functions such as tax accounting, valuation oversight, client reporting, and management reporting
- Manage investor cash flow and transfer agency activity
- Partner with Business, Investor Relations, Compliance, and other internal teams to provide data, respond to inquiries, and perform ad-hoc analyses related to fund or investor activity
- Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external service providers
- Lead and assist with initiatives related to hedge fund operations, accounting systems, and process enhancements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- 3–5 years of experience in public accounting, alternative investments, private equity, or fund administration
- Progress toward CPA, CFA, CAIA, or MBA preferred
- Strong understanding of partnership accounting (e.g., management fees, carried interest, clawbacks), third-party distribution, hybrid or side-pocket fund structures, and currency hedging
- Advanced Excel and Access skills; experience or interest in Alteryx, SQL, or Tableau is a plus
- Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational capabilities, and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Excellent communication skills and a client-focused mindset
