This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing startup in the aerospace/defense industry a Buyer. This role plays a key part in securing essential materials, maintaining accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), and ensuring components are available when needed to enable the successful build and delivery of advanced hardware and additive manufacturing solutions.
In this position, you’ll collaborate closely with engineering and operations teams to support new product launches, production ramp-ups, and system deployments. You’ll help drive efficient sourcing efforts—from supplier engagement and quote evaluation through purchase order execution—while identifying cost-saving opportunities. Responsibilities include procuring materials, tooling, and equipment required for additive manufacturing, as well as sourcing both PCB assemblies and commercially available components to support customer deliverables, internal development initiatives, and ongoing operations.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end purchasing: RFQs, supplier selection, negotiations, POs, and delivery follow-up
- Issue POs and partner with receiving, quality, and finance to resolve issues
- Analyze pricing and costs to guide sourcing decisions
- Identify and track cost savings
- Procure goods and services in line with FAR, DFARS, ITAR, and company policies
- Help maintain a compliant procurement system (DCAA/DCMA)
- Support supply chain risk and cybersecurity requirements (e.g., NIST 800-171)
- Assist with internal and external audits
- Keep procurement records accurate and audit-ready
- Partner with engineering and operations to qualify suppliers
- Onboard suppliers to meet DoD and compliance standards
- Monitor supplier performance and address risks
- Research markets to strengthen supplier base
- Support cross-functional efforts to meet cost, quality, and delivery goals
- Work with engineering on BOMs and change impacts
- Coordinate with inventory and warehouse teams on stock levels
- Resolve invoicing and reconciliation issues with operations and finance
- Improve procurement processes and procedures
- Communicate clearly with internal teams and suppliers
Requirements And Desired Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, engineering or a related field
- 2 years of supply chain or sourcing experience, in a manufacturing or technology environment, including technical procurement
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering BOMs
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Deltek Costpoint, SAP, etc.)
- Knowledge of forecasting tools, procurement analytics, and market benchmarking
- Experience with Materials management (i.e., warehousing, transportation, logistics)
- Exposure to additive manufacturing, automation, or advanced hardware environments
- Understanding of supply chain risk management and supplier contingency planning
- Familiarity with FAR, DFARS, ITAR, and U.S. Government acquisition regulations
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly, apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment, and organize work assignments to meet established timetables
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Procurement or supply chain experience in an aerospace or defense industries a plus
- Experience in startups or fast-growing environments a plus
- Demonstrated experience interfacing with DCAA, DCMA, or other U.S. Government oversight agencies a plus
- Working knowledge of PCBA manufacturing processes and terminology (e.g., SMT, through-hole, functional testing) to support supplier evaluation and sourcing decisions a plus
- Hands-on experience sourcing and procuring PCBAs, as well as electronic components, for prototype and production builds a plus
- Experience in supplier negotiations, cost reduction, and supplier performance management a plus
- Experience with PLM systems (e.g., Arena) a plus
- Must be a US citizen, able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
Pay Rate (DOE): $36 - $40 per hour
