Quality Manager - Round Lake, IL
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Quality Manager to lead and continuously improve our quality management system. The Quality Manager will own product and process quality across manufacturing operations, ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and customer requirements, drive root-cause corrective actions, and lead cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and improve reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001 and applicable customer or regulatory requirements.
- Lead internal and external quality audits, prepare audit reports, and drive timely corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Manage non-conformance, CAPA, and change control processes to ensure effective containment and long-term corrective action.
- Conduct root cause analysis using structured methodologies (e.g., 8D, DMAIC) and lead Six Sigma or Kaizen improvement projects to reduce defects and process variation.
- Perform risk assessments and mitigation activities including FMEA for new and existing products and processes.
- Establish and monitor quality metrics (e.g., DPPM, yield, first-pass yield, SPC charts) and report trends to senior management.
- Oversee incoming inspection, in-process inspection and final quality control to ensure product meets specifications.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, supply chain and R&D to integrate quality requirements into product and process design.
- Manage supplier quality performance including supplier selection, audits, incoming material inspection, and supplier corrective actions.
- Coach, mentor and develop the quality team; provide training on quality tools, procedures and best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing or related field; advanced degree a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in quality roles within a manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership capacity.
- Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining ISO 9001-compliant QMS and leading certification or surveillance audits.
- Certified in Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt preferred) with practical experience leading improvement projects.
- Proven experience with FMEA, root-cause analysis, SPC and other quality tools and methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality control techniques, including incoming inspection and in-process controls.
- Hands-on experience with Kaizen/Lean manufacturing methodologies and driving continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and project-management skills; ability to influence cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency with quality software and statistical tools (e.g., Minitab, SPC software) and ERP systems is desirable.
