Position Overview
The Process Controls Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and optimizing automated manufacturing and process control systems. This role focuses on PLC programming and maintenance, servo and motion control, HMI configuration, robotics support, and electrical systems troubleshooting to ensure reliable, safe, and efficient plant operations. The technician will work closely with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to commission new equipment, reduce downtime, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, program, and maintain PLCs (Allen-Bradley preferred) and related control hardware.
• Troubleshoot and repair automated systems including robotics, servos, VFDs and motion control components.
• Configure, program, and troubleshoot HMIs and operator interfaces to support production operations and process changes.
• Read, interpret and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control documentation.
• Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, and testing on control systems to maximize uptime and reliability.
• Commission and startup new equipment and automated lines, including integration with existing control systems and networks.
• Collaborate with engineers and production personnel to implement process improvements and automation upgrades.
• Diagnose electrical system faults and perform safe repairs in accordance with lockout/tagout and other safety procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of service activities, configuration changes, and spare parts inventory.
• Provide technical support and training to maintenance and operations staff on control systems and best practices.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Automation, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 3 years of experience working with industrial control systems, PLCs, and automated machinery; experience with Allen-Bradley platforms strongly preferred.
• Proven experience with robotics, servo drives, motion control, and HMI development and troubleshooting.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical systems and the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and ladder logic.
• Working knowledge of industrial networks and communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, DeviceNet, etc.).
• Familiarity with VFDs, power distribution, and basic electrical safety practices; ability to perform electrical repairs to code.
• Experience with commissioning, startup, and integration of automated systems in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under time constraints.
