Litigation Associate Attorney
Position Overview
We are seeking a Litigation Associate Attorney to join our growing litigation team. The ideal candidate will manage a diverse caseload of complex commercial disputes, with experience in real estate and lending matters, and handle matters in both state and federal courts. This role requires strong motion and appellate drafting skills, courtroom experience including depositions and hearings, and the ability to work on trial and appellate preparation under the supervision of senior litigators. The Litigation Associate will contribute to case strategy, client counseling, and efficient case management to achieve favorable outcomes for our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of complex commercial litigation matters, including real estate and lending disputes, from intake through resolution.
- Conduct legal research and draft substantive pleadings, motions, briefs, and appellate briefs with persuasive legal analysis and citation support.
- Prepare for and take depositions, defend depositions, and gather and review discovery materials, including document review and privilege analyses.
- Draft and respond to discovery requests, coordinate e-discovery processes, and manage document production and organization.
- Appear in state and federal courts for hearings, motion practice, case management conferences, and other procedural matters; assist with trial preparation and courtroom presentations.
- Assist with appellate matters, including drafting appellate briefs, preparing records on appeal, and supporting oral argument preparation.
- Communicate regularly and clearly with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel; prepare client updates and strategy memos.
- Collaborate with partners and senior associates to develop litigation strategy, settlement analysis, and case valuation; support settlement negotiations and mediations.
- Supervise junior staff and contract attorneys as needed, and contribute to matter budgeting, timekeeping, and billing accuracy.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant case law, statutes, and procedural rules in state and federal courts; participate in internal training and continuing legal education.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and admission to the NY Bar
- 2 years of litigation experience preferred, with demonstrated experience in complex commercial litigation
- Practical experience in state and federal court practice, including motion practice, hearings, and trial support.
- Appellate experience and the ability to draft persuasive appellate briefs and support oral argument preparation strongly preferred
- Strong drafting skills with a proven ability to prepare pleadings, motions, and memoranda of law.
- Experience with depositions both taking and defending and overall discovery management.
- Familiarity with real estate and lending disputes or commercial finance litigation is highly desirable.
- Excellent legal research skills and proficiency with legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, Lexis).
- Willingness to travel for court appearances and depositions as required; federal court admission or eligibility to seek admission is a plus.
