Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Director of Product to define and lead the product strategy for a portfolio of critical safety products that include both hardware and software components. This role will drive product vision, roadmap, and execution across cross-functional teams, ensuring products meet stringent safety and regulatory requirements while delivering exceptional customer value. The Director will partner with engineering, operations, quality, and commercial teams to bring complex systems to market and scale solutions that improve safety and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

• Set and communicate a clear product vision and strategy for a portfolio of critical safety products that include integrated hardware and software systems.
• Own the product roadmap, prioritization, and lifecycle management, balancing customer needs, safety requirements, technical feasibility, and business objectives.
• Lead and mentor a team of product managers and owners, fostering a customer-centric, data-driven product culture.
• Collaborate closely with hardware engineering, firmware, embedded software, and systems engineering to define product requirements and ensure cohesive hardwaresoftware integration.
• Drive requirements definition, risk assessment, and safety case development to meet regulatory standards and certification requirements for critical safety products.
• Partner with quality, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure producibility, reliability, and maintainability of hardware products.
• Work with sales, marketing, and customer success to develop go-to-market plans, pricing, and post-launch support strategies.
• Establish metrics and KPIs to measure product performance, safety outcomes, and customer satisfaction, and use insights to iterate on product improvements.
• Manage stakeholder communication and executive reporting on roadmap, risks, milestones, and market feedback.
• Identify market opportunities, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies to inform strategic product decisions and long-term planning.

Qualifications

• 10 years of product management experience with a track record of shipping hardware-software products; at least 5 years in leadership or director-level roles.
• Proven experience managing critical safety products or safety-critical systems, including familiarity with safety standards, risk management, and certification processes.
• Strong background in both hardware product management and software/embedded product management with demonstrated ability to integrate cross-disciplinary development efforts.
• Excellent leadership and people-management skills, with experience building and mentoring high-performing product teams.
• Deep technical understanding sufficient to collaborate with engineering teams on system architecture, tradeoffs, and validation strategies.
• Demonstrated success defining product strategy, roadmaps, and go-to-market plans, and translating customer needs into actionable product requirements.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, including experience presenting to executives and coordinating cross-functional initiatives.
• Preferred: Experience in the traffic management or intelligent transportation systems industry, including knowledge of traffic control devices, policies, and operator needs.
• Preferred: Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks and standards (e.g., ISO 26262, IEC 61508, NIST or other applicable safety and cybersecurity standards).
