Position Overview
The Sr. Buyer is responsible for end-to-end procurement activities that support business objectives by securing quality goods and services at the best total cost, managing supplier relationships, and minimizing supply risk. This role leads strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, demand forecasting and inventory replenishment, partnering with internal stakeholders to drive cost reductions, improve supplier performance, and ensure compliance with procurement policies, customs/export regulations and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic sourcing initiatives across assigned categories, develop sourcing strategies, and execute RFQ/RFP processes to secure competitive suppliers and favorable terms.
- Manage supplier relationships including selection, onboarding, performance evaluation, corrective action, and supplier audits to ensure quality, compliance and continuous improvement.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, service levels and commercial terms (including Incoterms) to optimize cost, delivery and risk mitigation.
- Oversee purchase order processing, EDI transactions and purchase requisition fulfillment to ensure timely order placement, accurate documentation and PO-to-invoice reconciliation.
- Drive inventory management and stock replenishment strategies, using demand forecasting, MRP signals and safety stock analysis to balance service levels with working capital efficiency.
- Perform spend analysis, cost modeling and total cost of ownership assessments to identify cost reduction opportunities and inform sourcing decisions.
- Coordinate logistics, freight management, import/export and customs compliance activities with carriers and third-party logistics providers to ensure on-time delivery and regulatory adherence.
- Develop and maintain procurement policies, procedures and KPIs; prepare regular procurement reports and dashboards for stakeholders and senior management.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, quality assurance, finance, engineering and sales to align sourcing plans with production schedules, product specifications and customer requirements.
- Manage supplier quality assurance activities and non-conformance resolution, working with QA and suppliers on corrective actions and continuous improvement.
- Support contract management lifecycle including renewals, amendments, risk assessments and supplier insurance/credit checks.
- Utilize ERP, MRP, POS and procurement systems to execute purchasing activities, maintain master data accuracy and streamline procurement workflows.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience); advanced degree or professional procurement certification (CPSM, CIPS, PMP or equivalent) preferred.
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive purchasing, procurement or sourcing experience, with demonstrated success in supplier management, contract negotiation and category management.
- Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems, EDI integrations, POS systems and strong Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data modeling); familiarity with procurement reporting tools and BI preferred.
- Proven experience managing international suppliers, import/export paperwork, customs compliance and Incoterms.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in spend analysis, demand forecasting, cost modeling and KPI tracking to drive data-driven decisions.
- Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to lead supplier audits, enforce quality assurance practices and manage supplier corrective action plans.
- Experience with logistics, freight optimization and third-party logistics coordination.
- Knowledge of procurement policies, compliance requirements, purchasing controls and internal audit practices.
- Continuous improvement mindset with exposure to Lean, Six Sigma or similar methodologies and experience applying process improvement techniques to procurement workflows.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, exercise sound judgment, and travel as needed for supplier visits and audits.
