Job Description:

Summary

The Coordinator, Employee & Labor Relations supports the College’s employee and labor relations function by assisting with investigations, policy application, contract administration, and day-to-day departmental operations. This role serves as a key partner to leadership by researching and analyzing employee relations matters, ensuring consistent application of policies and labor agreements, and supporting continuous improvement of labor relations processes. The Coordinator contributes to a positive, compliant, and equitable workplace environment through collaboration, data tracking, and effective communication.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates and supports the day-to-day operations of the Employee Labor Relations department, including managing leadership schedules and calendars, and scheduling internal and external meetings and activities, as directed.
  • Utilizes case management system (Maxient) to enter data and information to track cases related to issues, complaints, grievances, etc. to establish database of official records and documentation.
  • Positively responds to departmental requests in a timely manner with strong emphasis on outstanding customer service.
  • Provides administrative support to supervisor and department.
  • Assists with investigations by gathering facts, interviewing parties, documenting findings, and preparing written reports and summaries.
  • Collaborates with management to implement departmental and College-wide communication priorities related to employee and labor relations.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues across human resources and the College to support departmental, divisional, and institutional goals.
  • Builds and maintains productive relationships with employees, managers, and union representatives, demonstrating professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Actively participates in the successful delivery of the direct client service process.
  • Collects and maintains data to monitor outcomes, trends, and effectiveness of labor relations processes, support ongoing analysis and process improvement efforts.
  • Prepares and presents reports and presentations as needed utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite and College systems to include metrics data and trends.
  • Prepares and maintains confidential correspondence and documents and assists in processing documents related to employees, purchase orders, employment, benefits, and performance review activities.
  • Answers phones and screens incoming calls, mail, and email; responds independently to inquiries, drafts responses for leadership review or refers as appropriate.
  • Establishes and maintains general office documents, e-files, and records including organizing proposals and contract revision.
  • Assists with the preparation of reports, presentations, and publications, including research, writing, and copy-editing.
  • Assists with other College-wide projects, initiatives, and committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • Associate degree and a minimum of three (3) years; OR a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two (2) years of:
    • Demonstrated progressively responsible experience in professional office environment.
    • Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team.
    • Demonstrated experience in a role requiring varied problem-solving methods in a variety of situations.
    • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and professionalism.
  • Significant related experience may substitute for education.

Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrated knowledge of labor contracts, employment policies, and applicable employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment and/or higher education setting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team.

  • The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment.
  • The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.
  • Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite.

Target Starting Salary Range: $45,000 to $50,000

The final offer for the successful candidate is targeted to fall within this range, but will be based upon an assessment of internal equity, the unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications in relation to the minimum and/or preferred job requirement(s).
