Supervises, trains, schedules, and evaluates Youth Services staff to ensure high-quality customer service and adherence to library policies and procedures
Participates in the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and development of Youth Services personnel
Provides reference assistance, readers’ advisory, and information services to children, teens, parents, caregivers, and educators
Assists customers with technology-related questions and promotes the use of library resources and digital services
Serves as acting branch supervisor in the absence of the Branch Manager, providing operational oversight and staff support
Develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates engaging, age-appropriate programs for youth from birth through grade 12
Plans and maintains a comprehensive schedule of library and outreach programs designed to meet the educational, informational, and recreational needs of youth and their caregivers
Promotes Youth Services programs and resources through community outreach activities, including school visits, childcare center visits, informational fairs, and partnership events
Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations, schools, and agencies that serve children and families
Coordinates and manages outreach events, including the preparation, transportation, and distribution of promotional materials, program supplies, and display items
Knowledge of current library materials, literature, trends, technologies, and emerging developments in library services
Knowledge of the principles, practices, policies, and procedures of modern library operations
Knowledge of established cataloging, serials, and acquisitions principles, methods, and best practices
Knowledge of relevant periodicals, newspapers, databases, and electronic resources within an assigned service area
Knowledge of the organizational structure and functions of the department and related agencies
Skill in the use of OCLC software and other library technology systems
Skill in utilizing automated public catalog and circulation systems to perform library functions efficiently and accurately
Ability to interpret and analyze a wide variety of data, information, and both abstract and concrete variables to support decision-making and customer service
Ability to understand, apply, and assign subject headings, classification systems, and indexing schemes
Ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing and to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, customers, community partners, and the public
Ability to operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties

Driving is an essential function of this position. To be considered, you must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. If your driver's license is from another state, you will be required to obtain and show proof of a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire.
