Job Description

Perform confidential and non-confidential administrative and clerical work in support of assigned deputy court administrator and interpreting unit. Work independently with a minimum of direct supervision. Duties require daily contact, communication, and coordination of interpreters for court proceedings and other matters as requested for Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals who are involved in the judicial process (i.e. defendants, witnesses, victims, etc.) and cannot read, write, speak, or understand the English language.

Essential Job Functions

  • Receive and review requests from court staff, court-related staff, and outside parties for all court hearings and proceedings at the Magisterial District Judge (MDJ) and Court of Common Pleas and distribute accordingly.
  • Contact and schedule AOPC-approved interpreters for the requested language; coordinate and distribute assignments to interpreters.
  • Communicate with AOPC when approved interpreters are not available for a particular language requested to ascertain alternate options.
  • Serve as the Court’s Language Access Coordinator.
  • Maintain and understand the Court’s Language Access Plan.
  • Assist court/county departments with coordinating translation of court documents, forms, telephone messages, and audio files, upon request, and ensures compliance with the Language Access Plan.
  • Enter all interpreter activities and payment information into Language Access Database Collection (LADC) system established by AOPC.
  • Track and report language access complaints.
  • Create and maintain statistics on number of cases and costs.
  • Prepare annual Court Interpreter Services Grant application and any such other report requirements for AOPC.
  • Remain current on Language Access Rules and Regulations; maintain proficiency by participating in AOPC sponsored training.
  • Act as a liaison between requestors, interpreters, and court staff.
  • Maintain consistent and accurate records of all correspondence and requests.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as determined and assigned.
  • Provide back-up to other positions, as needed.
  • Occasionally travel on an as-needed basis for training and to complete assigned duties.

Education

Minimum Requirements to Perform the Work:

  • Associate’s degree in business, clerical studies or related field.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred but not required.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Work Experience

  • Three years of experience in an administrative office or business-related capacity with at least one of the three years in a court-related office.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
