Responsibilities
- Responsible for the daily operations of the government air export operations team and influencing all team members to deliver service results that meet the needs of the National customers
- Obtain and retain business on behalf of National Air Cargo by determining the appropriate routing in order to provide the service level required and maximize profit. Act as authorized representative of National Air Cargo in negotiating rates and establishing contractually binding shipping arrangements with airlines, pickup agents, delivery agents, etc.
- Work closely with team to train and develop superior air export operation processes and procedures following “The National Way”
- Manage the quoting and routing of shipments associated with the air tender and Global Heavyweight Shipment contracts
- Have a comprehensive understanding of the regulations governing the air transportation of hazardous materials and lithium batteries. Be familiar with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Technical Instructions and the applicable provisions of the International Air Transport Asociation’s (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) and stay updated on any changes or amendments to these regulations
- Ensure all employees involved in handling dangerous goods and lithium batteries receive proper training and are aware of the specific requirements and precautions associated with these items.
- Set strategy to meet team and individual goals as directed by the Managing Director.
- Maintain a customer focused operation which supports and integrates with the sales team.
- Facilitate continuous improvement and development in all aspect of the business.
- Maintain a high standard of organizational culture, values and reputation, among employees, suppliers and regulatory/official bodies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or related field preferred
- Prior experience working with the government GHS system and shipping government/military cargo
- Five years experience managing staff including team leaders.
- Five years freight forwarding and/or airline experience.
- Excellent leadership skills that can motivate others to perform well. Effectively influences others.
- Familiarity with GHS system and government shipment bidding
- Knowledge of Export, Import, and Domestic shipping procedures
- Working knowledge of Tenders and Service contracts and related requirements.
- Expertise with government regulations related to international shipping.
- Ability to work in an environment with time critical situations requiring sense of urgency and multi-tasking.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Able to negotiate effectively
- Strong organizational and customer service skills are required.
- Proven knowledge of shipment processing and problem resolution, able to achieve customer satisfaction, in difficult situations.
- Must be able to demonstrate an ongoing positive attitude that will be viewed as a professional role model for others
