What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Mentor, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site position in Brownsville, TX (relocation support provided)
- $100,000 annual compensation, paid weekly, with full health benefits
At Alpha, academic instruction is handled by software. Adaptive applications guide each student through content at an individualized pace. There are no lectures, no homework assignments, no grading papers. This structure liberates you to focus on what genuinely transforms lives: facilitating life skills workshops where high schoolers develop public speaking abilities, concentration, and feedback literacy, followed by one-on-one coaching sessions to maintain their motivation and ensure they reach their learning targets. You'll spend half your time facilitating group sessions. The other half involves sitting down with individual students, analyzing their Coachbot data to pinpoint exactly where they're encountering obstacles and why.
Students complete a mastery-based assessment following each workshop you lead. Over 90% should provide positive evaluations of your work. 100% should demonstrate consistent progress in their learning applications. These aren't aspirational targets; they represent the minimum standard. Maintaining high expectations is how you communicate your belief in their potential. Through this work, you'll develop expertise in creating workshops that teenagers eagerly anticipate, mastering advanced educational software, and forming enduring relationships with students and their families. Our Brownsville location sits adjacent to SpaceX. The cutting edge of education meets the cutting edge of space technology, and you'll be the one fulfilling Alpha's fundamental commitment: students who are passionate about learning, progress at twice the conventional rate, and acquire capabilities that truly prepare them for life. If you've been searching for an educational environment that operates according to your vision of how schools should function, you've found it.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for high school students covering topics such as public speaking, concentration techniques, and feedback exchange, followed by assessing mastery through structured Test2Pass evaluations
- Conducting daily motivational coaching sessions that leverage Coachbot analytics to engage individual students, diagnose learning app roadblocks, and help them overcome resistance
- Collaborating with students to create personalized motivational approaches, including reward systems and incentives that encourage autonomous advancement in their academic applications
- Preparing by reviewing curriculum materials and session plans, then adjusting your delivery approach based on real-time assessment of group dynamics
- Instructing in academic content areas. Mathematics, literacy, and all other subjects are delivered through software.
- Taking on school administration or team leadership responsibilities. No budget oversight, no recruitment duties, no operational planning meetings; your attention remains entirely on your student cohort.
- Enforcing discipline through conventional authoritarian methods. No detention assignments, no suspension proceedings, no "do it because I'm in charge." You rely on reasoning and positive reinforcement to cultivate a respectful, energized learning environment.
Develop a cohort of high school students who are passionate about their education, achieve 2x accelerated learning through adaptive software platforms, and exhibit mastery of practical life skills.
