What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Coach, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site position in Brownsville, TX (relocation support provided)
- $100,000 annual salary paid weekly, plus full health benefits
At Alpha, academic content is delivered through software. Adaptive applications guide each learner through subjects at an individualized pace. No traditional lectures, no homework assignments, no grading papers. This structure frees you to focus on what truly transforms lives: facilitating life skills workshops where high schoolers develop public speaking abilities, sharpen their focus, and practice giving and receiving constructive feedback—then coaching them individually to maintain motivation and reach their learning targets. You'll spend half your time leading group sessions. The other half, you'll sit one-on-one with a student, analyzing Coachbot data to pinpoint precisely where they're struggling and why.
After every workshop, your students complete a mastery-based assessment. Over 90% should rate your sessions highly. Every single one should be progressing through their learning apps. These aren't stretch goals; they're minimum expectations. Setting high standards for students demonstrates your confidence in their capacity to succeed. In this role, you'll develop expertise in designing workshops teenagers actively want to attend, mastering advanced learning technology, and forming meaningful relationships with students and families. Our Brownsville campus is located adjacent to SpaceX. The cutting edge of education meets the cutting edge of aerospace, and you'll be the one fulfilling Alpha's fundamental promise: students who love learning, advance at twice the typical rate, and acquire skills with real-world application. If you've been waiting for a school structured the way you believe schools should be, this is your opportunity.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for high school students covering subjects such as public speaking, focus techniques, and constructive feedback exchange, with mastery evaluated through structured Test2Pass assessments
- Conducting daily individual motivation sessions informed by Coachbot analytics to engage with students personally, diagnose obstacles in their app-based learning, and help them overcome challenges
- Co-creating personalized motivational frameworks with students, incorporating rewards and incentives that fuel independent progress in their academic applications
- Preparing by reviewing curriculum and lesson materials before each workshop, then adjusting your approach in real time based on student engagement and classroom dynamics
- Delivering instruction in academic subjects. All core content—math, literacy, and other disciplines—is taught via software.
- Overseeing school operations or managing staff. No budget responsibilities, no recruitment duties, no administrative meetings; your sole focus is your group of students.
- Enforcing rules through traditional disciplinary measures. No detentions, no suspensions, no authoritarian directives. You rely on reasoning and positive reinforcement to cultivate a respectful, energized learning space.
Develop a cohort of high school students who genuinely enjoy school, achieve learning gains at twice the standard pace using adaptive software, and demonstrate competency in practical life skills.
