What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Coach, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site position in Houston, TX (support for relocation available)
- $100,000 annual compensation, disbursed weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage begins on day one
Alpha operates differently from conventional schools. Students complete a full academic day in approximately two hours using adaptive software. No traditional lectures. No textbooks. Your role centers on what technology cannot replicate: guiding Pre-K through 8th grade students in life skills such as public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange. You will spend half your day facilitating hands-on workshops using structured playbooks and narrative techniques. The remaining half involves working with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their adaptive learning progress via Coachbot analytics, and driving them toward 100% completion of weekly targets. Students demonstrate mastery through Test2Pass assessments rather than participation-based grades.
During your first year, you will lead a student cohort and become proficient in Alpha's methodology: life skills workshops, motivational coaching, and mastery-driven assessment. Once you consistently maintain every student at 100% goal completion while keeping satisfaction ratings above 90%, advancement to Lead Guide becomes available—a role where you mentor other Guides while maintaining direct student engagement. Top performers in this position do more than transform individual students; they influence campus-wide operations.
If you have years of experience coaching, counseling, or mentoring young people and have wished to eliminate traditional instruction in favor of truly developing students, this is your opportunity.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for Pre-K–8 students covering public speaking, concentration, collaboration, and feedback processes (hands-on and project-oriented)
- Conducting daily individual and small-group motivation sessions where you assess each student's adaptive learning app progress (via Coachbot analytics), establish goals, and drive them toward 100% weekly target achievement
- Overseeing and evaluating Test2Pass assessments to verify students have genuinely mastered each life skill rather than simply attended
- Adjusting your coaching approach across a broad age spectrum, from Pre-K students requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing direct conversation and accountability
- Developing authentic relationships with each student that create sufficient trust for them to receive coaching through resistance, distraction, and uncertainty
- Providing lectures or traditional academic teaching (students acquire core subjects through adaptive applications, not direct instruction from you)
- Creating lesson plans or original curriculum (Alpha supplies life skills playbooks; your responsibility is to execute them with energy and narrative skill)
- Handling parent communications or administrative tasks (Campus Leads manage those functions; you remain concentrated on your students)
- Evaluating homework or preparing students for standardized tests (these elements do not exist in this environment)
- Operating independently (you function as part of a campus team including Lead Guides, Campus Leads, and colleagues who exchange feedback and maintain mutual accountability)
Guarantee that every student in your cohort develops a love for school, achieves mastery in essential life skills, and reaches 100% of their academic targets through adaptive learning software.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- 3 years of direct experience working with Pre-K–8 students (in teaching, coaching, counseling, or youth program leadership capacities)
- Demonstrated experience motivating or coaching Pre-K–8 students toward academic, behavioral, or extracurricular objectives, with at least one concrete example you can articulate (including the objective, your actions, and the result)
- Regular use of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
- Able to work on-site at Alpha's Houston, TX campus (relocation support available)
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
- Background in youth sports coaching, camp direction, or after-school programming where you held direct responsibility for driving kids toward specific objectives
- History of significant personal achievement (academic distinctions, competitive sports, or leadership positions requiring sustained excellence)
- Innate storytelling capability: you can maintain the attention of a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without increasing volume
- Experience re-engaging disinterested or resistant students and converting them into active contributors
