What are the responsibilities and job description for the VP of Field Operations, 2 Hour Learning - $200,000/year USD position at Crossover?
When you walk into a building, you notice what others miss — the ceiling tile that's come loose and hasn't been reported, the HVAC unit that's been making noise for days, the landscaping contractor who completed only half the work but billed for all of it. You don't wait for complaints to surface. You resolve issues before they're visible to anyone else.
This instinct defines the role. 2 Hour Learning runs high-quality K–12 campuses where families expect an environment that remains safe, reliable, and ready for tours every day — not just when events are scheduled. You will maintain that expectation across the Northeast region: Manhattan will serve as your home base, with consistent travel to facilities in CT, MA, and PA. Your work determines whether a campus maintains its premium standard or quietly deteriorates between leadership site visits.
Year one focuses heavily on establishing standards and cleaning up vendor relationships — defining what "ready" means operationally, creating the audit rhythm, removing underperforming vendors, and bringing Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists into a sustainable operational cadence. As the region expands and your systems mature, the role transitions to sustained regional oversight: you become the operational leader the organization turns to when launching a new campus, managing an urgent situation, or revising a standard.
This is a hands-on field position. If you prefer to manage through dashboards alone, this isn't the right fit. If you want full ownership over whether 25 schools maintain a premium experience daily — and the authority to deliver it — continue reading.

What You Will Be Doing
- Running scheduled on-site audits at Northeast campuses against established standards for cleanliness, HVAC, safety, security, signage, landscaping, furniture, and tour-readiness — and converting audit results into confirmed corrective action
- Managing facilities issues and emergencies, coordinating with vendors, and closing work orders only after confirming resolution (urgent within 24 hours, standard within 1 week)
- Overseeing local vendor execution against service-level agreements, removing vendors with repeat failures, renegotiating contracts, and conducting direct accountability discussions on quality and cost
- Establishing a weekly operational cadence with Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists to ensure every campus operates with consistent routines, not individual heroics
- Executing major campus improvement projects (HVAC replacements, interior updates, landscaping, AV/network upgrades) on time and within budget, minimizing student disruption
- Documenting enterprise standards and AI-supported procurement frameworks (leveraging ticketing platforms, IoT/predictive maintenance tools, and centralized sourcing) to ensure uniform campus launch and operations
- Delivering clear weekly written reports on regional quality metrics, vendor performance, escalations, and capital expenditure variance
- Managing remotely from dashboards — this role demands consistent physical presence at Manhattan and 20–40% travel to regional campuses (CT, MA, PA)
- Leading new campus design or ground-up construction projects — capital expansion is managed by a separate team
- Defining enterprise procurement strategy disconnected from field reality — your standards emerge from direct site experience
- Operating with clean org charts and direct authority over every contributor your success depends on — you'll create accountability through precision, documented follow-through, and refusal to accept imprecise vendor commitments
- Tolerating "tour-ready only when executives visit" as acceptable — persistent issues are root-caused and resolved, not repeatedly re-ticketed
- Defaulting to reactive crisis management — the audit schedule and predictive maintenance systems exist to surface problems before they generate complaints
Maintain every campus in the Northeast region as safe, premium, and tour-ready every single day.
Basic Requirements
- Located in New York City or within commuting range, prepared to work primarily from the Manhattan campus with 20–40% regional travel
- Authorized to work legally in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
- 5 years of experience owning multi-site facilities, regional operations, hospitality operations, retail operations, or school operations
- Documented success holding vendor-managed services accountable for quality, cost, and SLA compliance across multiple sites
- Hands-on experience resolving urgent facilities challenges (safety, HVAC, security, cleanliness) with measurable customer-experience outcomes
- Strong written operational discipline: issue tracking, escalation documentation, vendor follow-up, weekly regional quality reporting
- Proven use of contemporary operations tools (ticketing systems, IoT/predictive maintenance, AI-assisted procurement or planning)
- Multi-site operations leadership in premium hospitality, luxury retail, private K–12 schools, or healthcare networks serving demanding customers
- Experience building or rehabilitating a regional operations model that previously depended on individual heroics instead of documented standards
- History of terminating underperforming vendors and developing a reliable local vendor network
- Experience managing capital improvement projects (HVAC, AV/networking, landscaping, interior renovations) in active, customer-facing facilities
- Experience operating in an AI-first environment where playbooks, dashboards, and predictive tools handle routine work so people can focus on decision-making
