What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Excellence Coach, Alpha - $150,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- Based on-site at Alpha School campuses located in New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA
- Annual salary of $150,000, distributed weekly. Full health benefits begin on day one.
- Support for relocation provided
Alpha deploys AI-driven 1-on-1 instruction enabling students to complete core academics in roughly two hours daily. The remainder of each day becomes available for life skills development, passion-based projects, and substantive personal growth. At Alpha's most demanding campuses, students require more than oversight. They require a credible mentor whose personal accomplishments model the standard: someone capable of assessing group dynamics, establishing expectations, and guiding them past resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.
Your role is not instructional. It is to coach, challenge, and maintain the same rigorous standards you've applied to yourself. Forty percent of your time consists of direct 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions identifying obstacles and establishing ambitious targets. Another forty percent involves facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery rather than engagement. The final twenty percent focuses on establishing daily tone: purposeful openings that cultivate a culture rejecting mediocrity.
The trajectory here emphasizes depth over management. You begin by mastering Alpha's methodology and establishing credibility with students. Within months, you become the individual they trust to push them beyond perceived limits. The return isn't a title change. It's observing a student who avoided eye contact in September deliver a confident presentation to adults in May.
If you have sought a means to leverage your elite background for impact beyond personal achievement, submit your application now.
What You Will Be Doing
- Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions utilizing Coachbot analytics and student performance data to identify obstacles, establish ambitious targets, and ensure student accountability for execution
- Facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery by drawing on credible narratives from your elite background, then evaluating mastery via Alpha's Test2Pass framework
- Establishing campus-wide cultural expectations each morning through purposeful kickoffs that reinforce high-performance standards
- Monitoring student advancement in real time and modifying coaching approaches based on data rather than intuition
- Cultivating trusted mentor relationships with students and families through consistent high standards and documented motivational strategies
- Creating lesson plans, developing curriculum, or evaluating assignments (Alpha's academic framework manages instruction; you manage motivation)
- Delivering lectures to classrooms of 30 students (your focus is high-touch coaching in small settings, not large-group instruction)
- Supervising other staff or advancing through administrative ranks (this position centers on direct student impact, not organizational management)
- Attending faculty meetings or navigating institutional bureaucracy (your time remains concentrated on students)
- Reducing standards to achieve metrics (when a student reaches 99%, your responsibility is determining what prevented 100%)
Drive exceptional student motivation, growth, and life-skill mastery at Alpha's highest-expectation campuses.

- Willing to work in-person at an Alpha campus in New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA (relocation support provided)
- Legal right to work in the United States
- Background in elite competitive athletics (varsity D1, national team, or professional level) with experience coaching or mentoring younger athletes
