What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Excellence Coach, Alpha - $150,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site at Alpha School locations: New York City, NY
- Orange County (Lake Forest), CA
- San Francisco, CA
- Santa Barbara, CA
- $150,000 annual salary, paid weekly. Health benefits from day one.
- Support for relocation provided
Alpha leverages AI-driven 1:1 instruction, enabling students to complete their core academic work in roughly two hours each day. The remaining time is dedicated to life skills, passion projects, and substantive personal development. At Alpha's most rigorous campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor whose accomplishments establish the benchmark—someone capable of assessing group dynamics, shaping culture, and guiding students through resistance, distraction, and doubt.
This position does not involve traditional teaching; instead, you will coach, challenge, and uphold the same exacting standards you have applied to yourself. Approximately 80% of your time will be devoted to direct 1-on-1 and small-group coaching alongside life-skills workshops. The remaining 20% is invested in setting each day's tone through purposeful kickoffs that cultivate a culture where mediocrity is unacceptable.
This trajectory is not designed around advancing into management. It prioritizes depth. You begin by mastering Alpha's methodology and earning student trust. Within months, you become the person they rely on to push them beyond self-imposed limits. The return is not a title. It is witnessing a student who struggled with eye contact in September deliver a confident presentation to a room of adults by May.
If you are seeking a role where your elite background produces impact beyond your personal résumé, apply now. If you require a scripted curriculum, predictable classroom routines, or a trajectory toward administrative leadership, this is not the right fit.
What You Will Be Doing
- Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions to identify individual obstacles, establish ambitious targets, and maintain accountability for student execution
- Leading structured life-skills workshops designed for skill acquisition rather than entertainment, drawing on authentic examples from your own high-level achievements
- Evaluating student proficiency using platforms such as Test2Pass and monitoring progress through Coachbot analytics to refine coaching approaches dynamically
- Establishing cultural expectations each morning via focused kickoffs that embed high-performance standards campus-wide
- Cultivating trusted mentor relationships with students and families by maintaining high expectations, reliability, and formalized motivation strategies
- Creating lesson plans, developing curriculum, or evaluating assignments. Alpha's academic framework operates independently.
- Delivering lectures to large groups of 30 students. Your focus is intensive coaching in intimate settings, not mass instruction.
- Supervising other staff or pursuing advancement through administrative channels. This role centers on direct student outcomes, not organizational management.
- Attending faculty meetings or navigating institutional bureaucracy. Your schedule remains concentrated on student interaction.
- Compromising standards to satisfy performance indicators. When a student reaches 99%, your role is to identify what prevented 100%.
Lead outstanding student motivation, development, and life-skill acquisition at Alpha's most demanding campuses.
