What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reading Tutor, gt.school - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site role in Georgetown (Austin), TX. Relocation assistance available
- $100,000 annual salary, full-time position. Health, dental, and vision coverage from day one
- Must hold a reading certification (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, CERI, LETRS, or equivalent)
At gt.school, you finally apply the full scope of your training. No basal readers. No mandated district curriculum map. You'll lead small-group early literacy sessions for gifted 5–8-year-olds, conduct running records, form your own flexible instructional groups, and build each lesson directly from assessment data. Adaptive software manages content delivery. Your role is what no algorithm can replicate: guiding a small group of exceptional children to reach benchmarks they were never expected to meet this year.
100% of your students achieve their adaptive software targets. Over 90% rate you highly in feedback surveys. This is what happens when a certified literacy specialist works with intimate groups of gifted learners without interference. You'll witness first graders who entered at grade level begin consuming chapter books. That's the kind of transformation most literacy professionals spend decades hoping to encounter even once.
If you hold the credential, command phonics methodology, and believe gifted students deserve genuine acceleration—not enrichment disguised as the status quo—apply now.
What You Will Be Doing
- Leading small-group phonics sessions for gifted K–2 learners, with each lesson designed from live student data rather than a scripted program
- Conducting running records, evaluating reading levels, and creating your own differentiated instructional groups
- Delivering 1:1 and small-group motivational coaching using school currency, leaderboards, and personal rapport to inspire ambitious goals in adaptive platforms
- Monitoring live student performance in adaptive learning systems and adjusting instruction as data shifts
- Delivering whole-class lectures. Students advance through self-directed apps, not passive lessons
- Overseeing 25 students. You support small cohorts of gifted children
- Following a district-mandated pacing calendar or preparing for standardized exams
- Teaching content outside reading and writing (no math, science, or social studies responsibilities)
- Drafting IEPs, attending committee meetings, or managing school district administrative processes
Propel gifted K–2 students to multiple years of reading growth in a compressed timeline through adaptive technology and precise phonics instruction.
Basic Requirements
- Master's degree in reading instruction OR formal reading certification (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, CERI, LETRS, or equivalent). Science of Reading coursework by itself does not satisfy this requirement.
- Bachelor's degree in any field
- 2 years providing small-group early literacy instruction to K–2 learners
- Demonstrated ability to assess reading levels, organize instructional groups, and create differentiated lessons independent of pre-written curricula
- Direct experience working with gifted or high-achieving children (gifted & talented programs, academic enrichment camps, or specialized schools)
- Comfortable with AI/adaptive learning technologies and capable of analyzing student performance metrics
- Available to work on-site at the GT campus in Georgetown (Austin), TX. Relocation support available.
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
- Advanced Orton-Gillingham or multisensory structured literacy training beyond entry-level certification
- Familiarity with adaptive reading platforms (e.g., Lexia, Raz-Kids, or comparable K–2 tools)
- Proven success coaching students performing well above grade-level expectations
- Experience leveraging student data dashboards to inform daily instructional planning
