Reading Interventionist, Alpha - $120,000/year USD

Crossover
Charlotte, NC Full Time
POSTED ON 6/2/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/9/2026
  • $120,000/year salary, weekly pay, full health, dental, and vision coverage starting day one
  • On-site position at one of Alpha's campuses: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica, or South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton or Miami Beach, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Charlotte, NC; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available)
  • 40 hours weekly, 100% classroom-based with K-2 students

Your structured-literacy certification — Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson, IMSE, or a Master's in reading instruction — has opened the door to every K-2 reading position you've pursued. In most roles, it was also the limit: you delivered someone else's curriculum and tracked progress. Here that credential is your entry point. If that difference matters to you, continue reading.

Alpha has redefined traditional instruction. Students progress through academic content independently using AI-adaptive applications. No lectures, no textbooks, no pacing calendars. Your position is where human expertise cannot be replaced. You build 20-minute small-group workshops using real-time app analytics; sessions are deliberately brief, because targeted instruction outperforms duration. You also lead motivation sessions that bring 100% of students to their weekly app targets through Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate gamification). You catch a student's miscue during a session, identify the phonemic deficit, and redesign tomorrow's workshop before day's end. That is the expectation.

Families at these locations have selected Alpha for results, not simply enrollment. Parents review weekly data showing their child's reading progress and they ask questions. You will face specific inquiries about individual student advancement, and "they're doing fine" will not suffice. You must reference the running record, identify the phonemic gap, and describe your intervention. That accountability should energize you, not weigh you down.

Your initial months focus on proving yourself in the classroom. Workshops must be engaging, appropriately leveled, and demonstrably effective; student satisfaction and "love your Guide" surveys (target 90% ) provide direct measurement. As you establish credibility, your influence grows beyond your own classroom: successful approaches with your students become templates other Alpha campuses implement, and your diagnostic precision influences how reading instruction evolves as Alpha expands. Your work here extends beyond your immediate environment.

Before hiring, you'll submit a short video presenting an engaging story for young children, and you'll complete a full day on campus working directly with K-2 students. Low energy with children disqualifies candidates, regardless of credential strength. That's intentional. Apply today.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Creating small-group K-2 reading workshops based on live adaptive-app data, rooted in structured-literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or equivalent)
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions that drive 100% of your students toward their weekly app targets using Alpha's motivational system (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate gamification)
  • Analyzing AI-generated performance metrics (fluency curves, decoding accuracy, comprehension indicators) to modify instruction mid-day, not only during pre-planning
  • Conducting running records, fluency probes, and decoding assessments to generate gains reflected in the weekly campus data review
  • Serving as the engaging, energetic adult your K-2 students are excited to see daily

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Implementing a published reading curriculum, scripted program, or district pacing guide; you create lessons based on student data
  • Delivering lectures to a full classroom; all instruction occurs in small, targeted groups while students complete academic subjects through adaptive apps
  • Serving as a reading consultant, coach for other teachers, or district-level specialist; you work in the classroom with children every day
  • Managing a traditional classroom schedule: subject-by-subject lectures, homework review, test preparation. Your scheduled blocks consist of workshops, motivation sessions, and data-driven small groups instead
  • Drafting IEPs, 504 plans, or formal diagnostic reports; student progress is captured in app data and your running records, not in special-education documentation

Reading Interventionist Key Responsibilities

Generate measurable K-2 reading advancement across phonics, fluency, and comprehension within a campus environment where outcomes are assessed weekly.

Basic Requirements

  • Structured-literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent) OR a Master's degree in reading instruction
  • Bachelor's degree in any field, plus 2 years of full-time K-2 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical environment within the last 5 years, utilizing systematic phonics or structured literacy
  • Proven capacity to design your own reading lessons and clearly articulate what you teach and how, without depending on a published program
  • Commitment to work in person full-time at one Alpha campus: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica, or South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton or Miami Beach, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Charlotte, NC; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available)
  • Commitment to work with all K-2 students (not exclusively struggling readers) and incorporate AI and adaptive-learning tools into daily instruction as these tools develop
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Direct experience with AI-powered or adaptive reading platforms (e.g., Amira, Lexia, i-Ready, Reading Plus) for instructional planning or student data interpretation
  • Documented record of measurable reading outcomes (fluency gains in WCPM, accuracy improvement, decoding level progression) you can quantify
  • Familiarity with diagnostic reading assessments (DRA, DIBELS, AIMSweb) for creating differentiated groups
  • Experience in high-accountability educational settings (independent, elite charter, premium tutoring with families who closely monitor outcomes)
  • Background in performance, coaching youth sports, or otherwise engaging a K-2 audience beyond the reading classroom
