Alpha School operates on a framework where academic content is delivered through AI-driven applications, freeing your time to focus on capabilities software cannot replicate: public speaking, concentration, perseverance, and the practice of giving and receiving constructive feedback. Your role isn't lesson delivery. It's facilitation. You guide. You inspire a compact group of K-12 learners to pursue challenging weekly objectives, and you enforce accountability with the same rigor you apply to yourself. Students who rate their Guide most favorably aren't those with the most lenient Guide. They're those whose Guide respected them enough to maintain expectations.
Your inaugural year centers on skill mastery: internalizing Alpha's motivational framework, cultivating bonds with your cohort, and discovering how to ensure 100% of your learners achieve their targets each week. Once you demonstrate your ability to uphold standards while earning student trust, advancement to Lead Guide becomes possible—coaching other Guides while continuing to support your own students. Alpha is expanding to additional campuses, and those who exemplify excellence now will become the architects of its future growth.
If traditional education left you convinced something fundamental was missing, or if you've never worked in schools but always knew you could alter a young person's path, this is the environment where that conviction becomes your profession.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills sessions with K-12 learners on subjects including public speaking, concentration, and feedback delivery — interactive, experiential workshops where you engage and demonstrate, not lecture
- Guiding a compact student cohort daily, leveraging Coachbot analytics and motivational strategies to maintain consistent progress across all learning applications
- Administering and conducting mastery-based evaluations (Test2Pass) to confirm genuine skill acquisition, not mere attendance
- Building individual rapport with students: discovering their passions, identifying what drives each learner, and tailoring your methods to match
- Upholding performance standards: 100% weekly goal attainment across your cohort, 90% satisfaction ratings on student feedback surveys
- Instructing traditional academic content. Mathematics, literacy, and science are taught via adaptive platforms. You will never use a whiteboard to demonstrate long division.
- Developing curriculum materials from the ground up. Alpha supplies life skills programming and structured guides. Your responsibility is execution and animation, not creation.
- Evaluating assignments or conducting standardized testing. Report card completion and state exam preparation are not part of this position.
- Supervising passive screen time. When learners encounter obstacles, you teach problem-solving strategies. Passive observation contradicts the core of this role.
- Compromising expectations when students resist. The motivational approach depends on consistent high standards, not flexibility when pressure increases.
Guide a cohort of K-12 learners who are enthusiastic about school, accelerate their learning through adaptive technology, and develop essential life skills via dynamic workshop experiences.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- Minimum 3 years of direct experience with K-8 students (professional positions or formal volunteer work such as coaching, camp leadership, or youth-focused programs)
- Available to work on-site at an Alpha School campus in one of these cities: Lake Forest (Orange County), CA; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Raleigh, NC; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
- Background in athletic coaching, theater direction, debate instruction, or camp programming where you inspired children toward excellence, not simply engagement
- Demonstrated record of significant personal accomplishment (scholastic, athletic, or career-based) that commands respect from students and families
- Confidence presenting to groups, possessing the command to engage a room of middle schoolers without volume escalation
- Prior exposure to adaptive learning systems or educational technology solutions (e.g., Khan Academy, IXL, DreamBox)
