What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elite Sports Mentor, Alpha - $150,000/year USD position at Crossover?
You believe the most caring act toward a student is holding them to the highest possible standard. You've performed, built, or succeeded in arenas that most people only observe from a distance: competitive athletics at an elite level, a top-ranked university where you graduated with honors, a prestigious firm that accepts few, or a business you started and grew yourself. Now imagine channeling that rigor into a classroom of K-12 students who have never had someone like you demanding they reach heights they didn't believe were within reach. If requiring students to meet elite benchmarks feels unreasonable to you, this isn't the role.
Alpha leverages AI-driven 1-on-1 instruction so that students complete core academics in roughly two hours each day. The remaining time is dedicated to life skills, student-led projects, and meaningful personal development. At Alpha's most demanding campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a credible mentor whose own record of achievement establishes what excellence looks like: someone who can sense the mood, shape the culture, and guide them past resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.
You won't be teaching. AI delivers the academic content. Your responsibility is to inspire, coach, and enforce the same exacting standards you've applied to yourself. Forty percent of your time is spent in direct 1-on-1 and small-group coaching, identifying obstacles and setting stretch goals. Another forty percent involves facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery, not engagement alone. The final twenty percent is devoted to running focused morning kickoffs that set a daily tone where average performance isn't acceptable.
The trajectory here is depth, not advancement. You begin by mastering Alpha's system and earning student trust. In a matter of months, you become the adult they allow to challenge them beyond self-imposed limits. The payoff isn't a title change. It's staying with the same students year over year, becoming a fixture in their growth. It's seeing a student who avoided eye contact in September deliver a poised presentation to a room of adults by May.
This role remains student-centered. Students are the work itself, not a platform to something else. If you want to leave your current role because of the mission, not the résumé line, apply now.

What You Will Be Doing
- Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching sessions using Coachbot analytics and student performance data to identify barriers, establish ambitious targets, and ensure accountability for execution
- Facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery, drawing on credible examples from your own elite background, then evaluating mastery using Alpha's Test2Pass framework
- Establishing the cultural standard each morning through focused kickoffs that reinforce high-performance norms across the campus
- Monitoring student progress continuously and refining coaching approaches based on data rather than intuition
- Cultivating trusted mentor relationships with students and families by maintaining high expectations, consistency, and documented motivation strategies
- Delivering lessons, creating curriculum, or grading work — Alpha's AI-based academic system manages instruction; you manage motivation
- Presenting to a full classroom of 30 students (your work is high-touch coaching in small settings, not mass instruction)
- Supervising other staff or pursuing a management track (this role is about direct impact on students, not organizational advancement)
- Attending traditional faculty meetings or dealing with institutional red tape (your time remains student-focused)
- Compromising standards to meet quotas (if a student scores 99%, your role is to understand what prevented 100%)
Drive exceptional student motivation, personal growth, and life-skill mastery at Alpha's highest-expectation campuses.

- Willing to work in-person at an Alpha campus in Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Monica, CA; San Francisco, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boston, MA; New York City, NY; or Seattle, WA (relocation support provided)

- Experience in high-accountability environments like management consulting, investment banking, or military leadership
