What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counselor, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- $100,000 annual W2 salary with weekly pay; comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage beginning day one
- On-site position at an Alpha K-8 school in Scottsdale (Phoenix), AZ; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Brownsville, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston (Central, South, or The Woodlands), TX; Park City, UT (Salt Lake City metro) - we provide relocation assistance
When a student reaches 99% of their target, the most meaningful support you can offer is refusing to accept it as complete. If that expectation troubles you, this role isn't a fit. If it energizes you—because maintaining high standards demonstrates your belief in their ability to succeed—read on.
Alpha students complete their academic learning through AI-driven applications. No traditional lectures. No textbooks. You'll spend half your time facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions covering topics like public speaking, focus, and constructive feedback exchange. The remaining time is dedicated to individual and small-group coaching, where you analyze student progress via Coachbot data and drive each learner toward 100% completion of weekly app objectives. You won't follow a rigid script—workshop frameworks serve as foundations, but top performers customize them and create new content when needed.
Success in a quarter means every student in your group achieves weekly app targets, passes the Test2Pass for all life-skills workshops, and 90% report loving you. Fall short on any of these three metrics and you've missed the mark. Your first year focuses on mastering our methodology; once you demonstrate the ability to uphold standards, advancement to Lead Guide becomes available, where you mentor new staff while continuing direct student work.
If traditional teaching appeals to you, if you prefer ready-made curriculum, or if you see warmth and rigor as incompatible, look elsewhere. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp counseling, tutoring where you wouldn't let students give up, or performing for groups of young children, the final step toward an offer is spending a full day on campus coaching actual Alpha students. If that prospect excites you most, submit your application now.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions for K-8 groups covering public speaking, focus, feedback, and related essential competencies, customizing the framework and creating new content when you identify needs
- Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching conversations that drive every student to 100% weekly app completion, leveraging Coachbot data, Alpha's motivation systems (campus currency, performance rankings), and individual relationships to overcome resistance
- Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's competency-based evaluation) for each life skill, then continuing to coach students until mastery is demonstrated
- Adjusting your approach across a broad developmental spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing candid conversation and personal accountability
- Serving as the adult who maintains standards while remaining someone students trust and seek out; connection creates the foundation for challenge, and challenge communicates your confidence in their potential
- Delivering whiteboard instruction; academic content is embedded in the applications, not delivered by you
- Creating curriculum materials from the ground up; you animate an established framework through presence and narrative
- Passively monitoring students on devices; the motivation model here is engaged, individualized, and persistent
- Adjusting weekly targets downward to make them easier to achieve; when students fall behind, the solution is supporting the student, not changing the goal
- Evaluating assignments, facilitating standardized exam preparation, or handling family correspondence; Campus Leads manage parent interactions, and the other tasks don't exist in this model
Drive every student in your K-8 group to complete weekly learning objectives, achieve mastery in each life skill, and finish the year reporting that they loved you.
