What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- $120,000 annual W2 compensation, distributed weekly; comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage begins day one
- On-campus placement at an Alpha K-8 location in Beverly Hills, CA; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Miami Beach, FL; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; Raleigh, NC; Portland, OR (relocation assistance available)
The most meaningful way to support a student who reaches 99% of their target is to refuse to accept it as complete. If that approach troubles you, this role is not for you. If it energizes you—because maintaining the standard is how you demonstrate belief in a student's potential—read on.
At Alpha, academic content is delivered through AI-powered applications. No traditional lectures. No textbooks. Approximately 60% of your time is spent facilitating one-hour workshops on life skills: public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback exchange. Around 30% involves individual and small-group sessions where you examine student progress via Coachbot analytics and drive each student toward their weekly application goals. The remaining 10% is dedicated to data analysis that informs the following week's coaching strategy. You will not follow a rigid script; workshops serve as frameworks, and high performers in this role customize them and create new content when needed.
Success in a semester is defined by three metrics: at least 90% of your cohort achieving weekly app goals, demonstrable life-skill improvement on Test2Pass, and a 4/5 or higher satisfaction rating from students. Falling short on any metric means falling short of the role. As you demonstrate your ability to maintain standards, advancement opportunities open to Lead Guide—where you coach newer Guides while managing a cohort—and eventually to Campus Lead, where you oversee an entire school and manage parent engagement.
If you prefer traditional pedagogy, need pre-built curriculum, or view warmth and rigor as incompatible, this position is not suitable. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp leadership, tutoring where you refused to let students give up, or performance experience that allowed you to command a room of middle schoolers, the final step before an offer is a full day on campus coaching actual Alpha students. If that prospect excites you most, submit your application today.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions for K-8 cohorts covering public speaking, concentration, feedback exchange, and other foundational competencies, customizing the framework and creating new sessions when you identify needs
- Conducting daily individual and small-group motivation sessions that drive every student toward weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's reward structures (school currency, leaderboards), and individual relationships to overcome resistance
- Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's competency-based evaluation) for each life skill, and continuing to coach students who do not achieve passing until mastery is demonstrated
- Modifying your coaching approach across a broad age spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing direct communication and accountability
- Analyzing weekly cohort performance metrics in Coachbot, pinpointing students falling behind, and modifying your coaching methods for the upcoming week based on data insights
- Teaching from a whiteboard; academic instruction is delivered through applications, not by you
- Creating a complete curriculum from scratch; you begin with an established framework and personalize it with your energy and narrative approach
- Passively monitoring students at workstations; motivation in this role is proactive, individualized, and persistent
- Working through bureaucratic processes to secure resources for struggling students; if a student requires additional coaching time, you decide and implement immediately
- Assessing homework, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling parent correspondence; Campus Leads manage parent-facing responsibilities, and the other tasks do not exist in this role
Ensure every student in your K-8 cohort achieves their weekly learning targets, demonstrates mastery of each life skill, and concludes the year expressing that they valued their experience with you.

- Bachelor's degree in any field
- Minimum 3 years of direct experience with K-8 students (teaching in classrooms, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program management)
