What are the responsibilities and job description for the Educational Technology Specialist, Alpha - $120,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site at an Alpha campus in Lake Forest CA, Palo Alto CA, Piedmont CA, San Francisco CA, Santa Monica CA, Greenwich CT, Chicago IL, Boston MA, New York City NY, or Chantilly VA (relocation assistance available)
- $120,000 annual salary, distributed weekly. Health, dental, and vision coverage begins day one
- Adaptive learning platforms and AI-driven tools embedded in everyday teaching
Alpha's reading instruction is built on a straightforward principle: every minute counts. Your sessions last 20 minutes and focus on what each child truly needs right now, rather than what a pacing calendar prescribes. You'll evaluate reading levels, organize targeted groups, and provide focused structured literacy instruction (phonics, fluency, comprehension) to students aged 4-7, driving measurable progress week over week. AI-enhanced adaptive platforms work alongside you, producing performance insights you'll use to refine tomorrow's lesson while today's session is still fresh.
This position evolves over time. During year one, you'll be immersed in the classroom: facilitating workshops, leading motivational activities that transform hesitant readers into enthusiastic learners, and delivering detailed observations to the technology team perfecting Alpha's AI literacy systems. As those systems expand and your input shapes their development, your influence reaches beyond your immediate students. You'll contribute to building a reading program that functions across multiple campuses, scaling what you accomplish with 15 children into a framework that supports hundreds.
If you've dedicated your career to demonstrating that structured literacy delivers results and you're prepared to combine that expertise with technology that extends your reach, this is where your influence transcends the boundaries of a single classroom.
What You Will Be Doing
- Creating and facilitating 20-minute reading workshops informed by your own diagnostic evaluations of each student's reading proficiency and specific needs
- Leveraging AI-generated performance insights to modify groupings and instructional priorities between sessions, rather than waiting for quarterly data cycles
- Leading motivational activities that cultivate intrinsic reading engagement, incorporating age-appropriate gamification and personalized goal-setting with K-2 learners
- Piloting and assessing AI literacy platforms during live instruction, then delivering structured feedback to the technology team on effectiveness and areas for improvement
- Monitoring concrete outcomes (fluency growth, decoding progression, accuracy gains) and applying those insights to refine your methods on a weekly basis
- Implementing a scripted or prepackaged reading curriculum. You assess needs and create instruction independently.
- Delivering 60-90 minute lecture-based literacy blocks. Sessions are brief, targeted, and high-engagement.
- Serving only students who are below grade level. You'll work with all K-2 learners across the full spectrum of reading ability.
- Working independently from technology. AI adaptive platforms are woven into your everyday practice, not an occasional supplement.
- Waiting for quarterly data cycles to modify your instruction. You make adjustments in real time based on current performance data.
Advance early elementary students to grade-level reading proficiency through adaptive, AI-supported structured literacy instruction.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (any discipline)
- Master's degree in reading instruction OR structured literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, LETRS, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent)
- 2 years of full-time K-2 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical setting within the last 5 years, utilizing systematic phonics or structured literacy
- Capability to design your own reading lessons and articulate what you teach and how, without depending on a published program
- Willingness to work on-site at an Alpha campus (Lake Forest CA, Palo Alto CA, Piedmont CA, San Francisco CA, Santa Monica CA, Greenwich CT, Chicago IL, Boston MA, New York City NY, or Chantilly VA; relocation assistance available)
- Willingness to incorporate AI and adaptive learning tools into daily practice and adjust as platforms develop
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
- Experience administering diagnostic reading assessments (e.g., DRA, DIBELS, AIMSweb) to inform differentiated group formation
- Documented history of measurable student reading progress you can describe with concrete data (e.g., advanced 12 students from Level C to Level G in one semester)
- Experience partnering with edtech teams, product teams, or instructional designers on tool development
- Background in a startup, micro-school, or non-traditional school setting where you developed systems rather than executed existing ones
