What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Childhood Teacher, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site positions available at Alpha School locations: Phoenix, Arizona; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Austin, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; Houston, Texas; Park City (Salt Lake City), Utah
- $100,000 annual salary, disbursed weekly. Health benefits start on day one
- Relocation assistance provided
Alpha operates outside the traditional school model. Students progress through academic material via adaptive software at individualized paces. There are no lectures, no worksheets, and no standardized pacing for all. Your responsibility is to ensure a small group of K-2 students looks forward to arriving each morning, achieves their weekly learning targets, and develops life skills many adults never acquire.
You'll facilitate hands-on workshops covering public speaking, focus, and feedback exchange with students aged five, six, and seven. You'll guide students through their learning applications—not by providing answers, but by cultivating the problem-solving habits they need to persist independently. When 100% of your students meet their weekly objectives and 90% describe you as someone they enjoy working with, you'll have clear evidence of your effectiveness.
This role is not about supervising children using computers. It's high-stakes coaching where individual student advancement is monitored, every session produces measurable results, and your influence is demonstrated through data rather than sentiment alone. If you believe children possess unlimited potential and conventional education constrains them, this is your opportunity to demonstrate that belief.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops covering subjects such as public speaking, focus, and feedback exchange with a small cohort of K-2 students
- Guiding students through adaptive learning applications by developing their capacity to overcome obstacles independently rather than supplying direct answers
- Conducting motivation sessions utilizing Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, goal-setting) to ensure 100% of students reach their weekly learning benchmarks
- Administering and delivering mastery-based assessments (Test2Pass) to validate that students have genuinely mastered each skill
- Examining curriculum and lesson plans daily, then tailoring your approach according to each student's profile, interests, and progress metrics
- Presenting lectures to a classroom or delivering academic instruction (students acquire academics through apps; you facilitate life skills and motivation)
- Creating lesson plans from the ground up or designing curriculum (Alpha supplies the curriculum and playbooks; you provide the enthusiasm and implementation)
- Reducing standards when students encounter difficulties (Alpha's framework requires every student to achieve mastery; advancing someone at 90% is not acceptable)
- Handling parent correspondence or supervising school operations (those responsibilities belong to the Campus Lead)
Guide a small group of K-2 students to develop life skills and achieve their academic targets each week.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any field
- At least 3 years of experience working with children ages 4 to 8 in education, afterschool programs, coaching, or similar settings
- Experience leading structured activities for groups of young children that combine clear expectations with high engagement
- Willingness to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Phoenix, Arizona; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Park City (Salt Lake City), Utah; Austin, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; or Houston, Texas
- Able to attend a paid training program at our Austin, Texas campus
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Background in youth athletics coaching, theater, or camp leadership where you had to hold kids' attention AND hold them to standards
- Experience using data or analytics to track student or participant progress and adjust your approach
- Track record of receiving feedback and visibly changing how you work based on it
- Familiarity with growth mindset coaching techniques or positive behavioral frameworks for young children
