Alpha School is redesigning education around a model where children achieve academic mastery quickly, freeing time to develop essential life competencies. At the Pre-K level, this foundation rests on something more elemental: emotional security, natural curiosity, and the resilience to keep trying.
Your objective: guide an on-site NYC Pre-K group that develops a love for learning while achieving accelerated developmental progress—approximately twice the rate of conventional preschool programs. You will create purposeful, sensory-enriched play sessions aligned with developmental benchmarks, track progress on a weekly basis, and iterate rapidly to meet each child's evolving needs.
New York City offers: public parks ideal for experiential outdoor learning, culturally rich neighborhoods with engaged family networks, comprehensive public transportation, and proximity to leading early childhood education thought leaders.
Cultivate joy. Drive measurable development. Submit your application today.
What You Will Be Doing
- Plan and lead 30–60 minute play-driven learning sessions that foster joy, emotional security, and quantifiable developmental advancement
- Build a classroom environment rich in movement and sensory experiences that sustains high engagement and supports multimodal learning for four-year-olds
- Conduct real-time observation and documentation: Record same-day, evidence-based notes aligned with developmental domains, then refresh each child's milestone tracker weekly
- Apply data to shape teaching: Review weekly documentation to pinpoint each child's next developmental step and design targeted instructional responses
- Craft personalized, interest-driven activity modifications anchored in what motivates each child, integrate one specific developmental target, and reassess outcomes within a two-week cycle
- Support children navigating frustration through composed co-regulation techniques and emotional guidance instead of reactive behavior management
- Share student progress, daily routines, and developing issues clearly and proactively with family members
- Approach Pre-K as custodial care instead of purposeful early learning
- Default to scripted worksheets or compliance-focused teaching methods
- Spend the majority of your day supervising digital learning apps rather than facilitating direct, tactile instruction
- Apply reactive behavior management strategies in lieu of calm co-regulation and emotional coaching
Ensure NYC Pre-K children cultivate a genuine love of school while achieving accelerated early-learning outcomes through purposeful, play-based instruction.
Basic Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, OR CDA/Montessori/Reggio credential
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience with 3–5-year-olds in a structured group environment (classroom setting, not exclusively one-on-one care)
- Documented success leading play-based learning experiences that produce visible developmental gains
- Verified ability to record developmental milestones objectively and reliably on a weekly schedule using a structured framework or rubric
- Advanced relationship-building and emotional sensitivity: Capacity to establish trust rapidly, interpret emotional signals with precision, and leverage personalized motivators to drive engagement
- Co-regulation and emotional scaffolding: Support children through moments of frustration using calm demonstration and structured emotional guidance
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
- Available to work full-time on-site in New York City, NY
