What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Childhood Educator, Alpha - $120,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site position in New York City, NY
- $120,000 annual salary, paid weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage starting day one.
- Relocating? Relocation assistance is available.
Alpha School is redefining education—where children achieve academic mastery quickly and invest more time developing essential life skills. In Pre-K, that foundation is even more critical: emotional security, curiosity, and the resilience to explore.
Your role: guide an in-person NYC Pre-K group that thrives in school while demonstrating accelerated early-learning outcomes—approximately 2x the progress of conventional preschool programs. You'll craft purposeful, sensory-driven play experiences that integrate developmental milestones, then track progress each week and adapt rapidly for every child.
NYC: City parks for outdoor exploration, vibrant neighborhoods with engaged family communities, best-in-class public transportation, and proximity to innovative early childhood networks.
Cultivate joy. Drive growth. Apply today.
What You Will Be Doing
- Plan and lead 30–60 minute play-based learning sessions that foster joy, emotional security, and quantifiable developmental progress
- Build a classroom environment rich in movement and sensory opportunity that sustains engagement and enables four-year-olds to learn across multiple modalities
- Capture real-time observations: Record same-day, objective documentation linked to developmental domains, then refresh each child's milestone tracking weekly
- Let data inform your teaching: Review weekly documentation to pinpoint each child's next developmental edge and design targeted learning responses
- Create personalized, interest-driven activity modifications for each child, embedding one focused developmental objective, and reassess impact within two weeks
- Support children through challenges using composed co-regulation and emotional guidance instead of reactive behavior management
- Share student progress, daily routines, and emerging observations clearly and proactively with families
- View PreK as custodial care instead of purposeful early education
- Default to scripted worksheets or compliance-based instruction as your primary method
- Spend most of your day supervising academic apps rather than facilitating live, interactive learning
- Substitute reactive behavior management for calm co-regulation and emotional coaching
Ensure NYC Pre-K children develop a love for school while showing accelerated early-learning growth through purposeful play.
Basic Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, OR CDA/Montessori/Reggio credential
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with 3–5-year-olds in a structured group setting (classroom, not solely one-on-one care)
- Demonstrated success facilitating play-based learning that drives observable developmental growth
- Proven ability to document developmental milestones objectively and consistently on a weekly cadence using a structured framework or rubric
- Strong relationship-building and emotional attunement: Ability to build trust quickly, read emotional cues accurately, and use individualized motivators to unlock engagement
- Co-regulation and frustration scaffolding: Guide children through emotional spikes using calm modeling and structured emotional coaching
- Eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
- Ability to work full-time on-site in New York City, NY
