What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Learning & Development, Alpha - $200,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site position in Bethesda, MD | Chicago, IL | Piedmont, CA
- $200,000 annual salary, distributed weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage from day one
- Relocation assistance provided
Students at Alpha don't passively absorb lectures. They accelerate through adaptive applications, achieving mastery at double the speed of conventional classrooms while developing practical life competencies. Your responsibility is ensuring three core commitments are fulfilled for every child in your cohort: enthusiasm for school, learning velocity doubled, and acquisition of skills beyond any curriculum. You will also develop the Guides who execute these same commitments throughout your campus.
Your day begins with data review. Analytics identify students maintaining trajectory and those requiring additional support. By mid-morning you're facilitating a live session, guiding K-8 students through public speaking or concentration techniques using Alpha's established framework. Post-lunch involves observing a Guide's workshop, then providing them with three concrete actions to refine their execution. Certain days you serve as the motivational catalyst during huddles, converting leaderboard rankings into momentum. You maintain direct engagement with your own student cohort while cultivating Guides capable of meeting your benchmark and through their growth, your influence scales from a single cohort to the entire campus.
You'll witness reserved children confidently present to adult audiences. You'll observe a student who previously "despised school" request extended hours. And you'll understand that the standard you maintained is precisely what enabled their transformation because upholding expectations demonstrates your belief in their capacity to exceed them.
If you've demolished benchmarks, converted struggling performers into high achievers, and you're prepared to do it for children: submit your application now.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour live sessions with K-8 students covering life competencies such as public speaking, concentration, and feedback exchange, using Alpha's established framework
- Developing Guides through observation, precise feedback, and practical coaching so they execute workshops with equivalent energy and accuracy
- Conducting daily motivational sessions that propel 100% of students toward weekly learning targets using developmentally appropriate incentives including school currency and leaderboards
- Analyzing Coachbot data and student records to determine intervention needs, then executing personal interventions
- Directly mentoring your own small student cohort, demonstrating the coaching and motivational techniques you require from all Guides
- Creating lesson plans or developing curriculum. Students master content via adaptive apps; your focus is elevating the people supporting them.
- Delivering traditional lectures. You're 80% performer, 20% content expert; if you prefer whiteboard instruction, this position isn't suitable.
- Accepting "close enough" from students. 100% mastery is the standard, and reducing it does not constitute compassion.
- Working from an office processing documents. The majority of your time is spent directly with students and Guides.
Execute Alpha's 3 Promises: every child develops passion for school, achieves learning at 2x velocity, and masters life competencies, throughout your cohort and those managed by your Guides.
