Director of Learning & Development, Alpha - $200,000/year USD

Crossover
Paterson, NJ Full Time

  • In-person roles in Beverly Hills, CA; La Jolla (San Diego), CA; Piedmont, CA; South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Boston, MA; Bethesda, MD; Raleigh, NC; New York City, NY; Seattle, WA (relocation assistance available)
  • $200,000 annually, paid weekly | Health, dental, and vision benefits begin day one

The most meaningful way to support a student who achieves 99% is to refuse to round it up to 100%. Not out of apathy — but because you know they're capable of reaching it, and lowering expectations is the true disservice. If that reasoning resonates, continue reading. If it feels unnecessarily strict, this position will likely not suit you.

Students at Alpha don't passively attend lectures. They progress through adaptive learning apps at double the speed of conventional classrooms while simultaneously developing practical life skills. Your role is to ensure three core commitments are fulfilled for every student in your cohort: they develop a genuine love for school, they learn at twice the standard rate, and they acquire capabilities that extend far beyond traditional academics. You will also guide and develop the Guides who are responsible for delivering these same outcomes across your campus.

Data informs every choice, and every interaction happens in person. Your time is divided between leading your own student cohort and coaching the Guides under your supervision — and the expectation remains constant for both: documented progress without compromise. When a Guide's session underperforms, you don't file paperwork; you observe the session, hold a debrief, and implement corrections immediately.

You will witness reserved children present with confidence to adults. You will see students who once claimed to hate school volunteer to stay longer. And you will understand that the high standard you maintained is precisely what enabled their growth, because maintaining rigorous expectations is how you communicate your belief in someone's potential.

You may be opening a campus from the ground up and setting the foundational culture that will shape the school's identity. As the campus matures, your role evolves from hands-on operator to coaching-focused leader, cultivating the team that will expand Alpha's approach throughout your region.

If this opportunity excites you, submit your application now.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Facilitating one-hour interactive workshops on life skills and social-emotional learning (SEL) with K-8 students, covering subjects such as public speaking and focus, using Alpha's established curriculum framework
  • Conducting daily motivational sessions designed to drive 100% of students toward their weekly app-based learning goals through age-appropriate motivators including school currency systems and leaderboards
  • Developing Guides through direct observation, specific feedback, and practical coaching so they facilitate workshops with equivalent energy and accuracy
  • Analyzing Coachbot data and individual student profiles to pinpoint students requiring additional support, then providing that intervention yourself
  • Directly mentoring a cohort of students, demonstrating the coaching and motivational techniques you expect every Guide to replicate

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Creating lesson plans or developing curriculum materials. Students progress through adaptive software; your responsibility is to make the people supporting them exceptional.
  • Delivering traditional classroom lectures. You function as 80% performer, 20% content expert; if your preference is standing at a whiteboard, this role will disappoint.
  • Compromising standards when facing pressure from parents or school leadership. When a student achieves 99%, the response remains "not yet" — and you will have institutional support to maintain that boundary.
  • Spending your day in an office handling administrative tasks. The majority of your time is spent directly engaging with students and Guides.
  • Waiting extended periods for performance evaluation. Results appear in real time through Coachbot, and course corrections occur the same day.
