The most meaningful support you can offer a student who reached 99% of their goal is to refuse to accept it as complete. If that principle unsettles you, this role is not a fit. At Alpha, academic learning happens through AI-driven applications. No lectures. No textbooks. Half your time is spent facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops covering public speaking, focus, and real feedback exchange. The other half is dedicated to 1:1 and small-group sessions where you review Coachbot analytics, assess student progress, and guide each individual to complete 100% of their weekly app objectives. You will not follow a rigid script—workshops provide a foundation, but top performers customize them and create new sessions when needs arise.

A successful quarter means every student in your cohort completes their weekly app targets, passes the Test2Pass for all life-skills workshops, and 90% report they love you. Falling short on any of these three metrics means missing the mark. In your first year you internalize the system; as you demonstrate your ability to uphold standards, advancement to Lead Guide becomes available, where you mentor new hires while continuing direct work with students.

If you prefer traditional classroom teaching, expect pre-built curriculum delivered to you, or view warmth and rigor as incompatible, this position is not suitable. What You Will Be Doing

• Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts covering public speaking, focus, feedback, and other enduring competencies, modifying the existing framework and creating new sessions when you identify unmet needs
• Conducting daily 1:1 and small-group motivation sessions that drive every student toward 100% completion of their weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and individual relationships to overcome resistance
• Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's mastery-based evaluation) for each life skill, and coaching students through repeated attempts until they achieve mastery
• Adjusting your coaching approach across a broad age spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing candid conversations and accountability
• Serving as the adult who maintains high standards and the adult students trust and want to confide in; warmth establishes your credibility to challenge, and challenging demonstrates your confidence in their abilities
  
  

What You Won’t Be Doing

• Delivering instruction at a whiteboard; academic content is embedded in the applications, not your teaching
• Creating curriculum materials from the ground up; you activate an established playbook through energy and narrative
• Passively monitoring students on computers; motivation in this role is direct, personal, and persistent
• Reducing a weekly target to help a student meet it; when a student falls behind, the solution involves the student, not the goal
• Evaluating homework, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling parent communications; Campus Leads manage parent interactions, and the other tasks do not exist in this model
  
  

Coach Key Responsibilities

Guarantee that every student in your K-8 cohort completes their weekly learning objectives, achieves mastery in each life skill, and concludes the year reporting they loved you.

Basic Requirements

• Able to work in-person at an Alpha campus located in Denver, CO; Atlanta, GA; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Brownsville, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX (Central, South, or The Woodlands); Park City, UT; or Toronto, Canada (relocation assistance provided)
• Bachelor's degree in any discipline
• Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (classroom instruction, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program leadership)
• A concrete example you can articulate of motivating a K-8 student toward a challenging goal: the objective, your actions, and the result
• Comfort allowing AI to manage instructional delivery while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills coaching
• Daily usage of generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
• Legal authorization to work in the US without visa sponsorship (or in Canada for the Toronto location)
  
  

Nice-to-have Requirements

• Background in youth sports coaching, debate, camp leadership, theater, or after-school programming where you held direct responsibility for motivating children toward defined objectives
• Personal record of exceptional achievement (academic, athletic, or professional), such that maintaining high standards for others reflects a consistent pattern rather than an adopted stance
• Storytelling ability and stage presence sufficient to engage a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to raise your voice
• Demonstrated success converting disengaged or reluctant students into active, willing participants

Working with us

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $50 USD/hour, which equates to $100,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
