What are the responsibilities and job description for the Career Coach, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
Position Details
The most meaningful support you can offer a student who reaches 99% of their target is to refuse to accept it as complete. If that expectation unsettles you, this role is not a fit. If it energizes you because maintaining high standards is how you communicate belief in a student's potential, continue reading.
Alpha students complete academic content through AI-driven applications. No traditional lectures. No physical textbooks. Half of your workday is dedicated to facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions covering public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback practices. The other half involves meeting with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their progress via Coachbot data, and ensuring each one reaches 100% of their weekly application targets. You will not follow a rigid script—workshop frameworks provide structure, but high performers in this role customize them and create additional content when needs arise.
A successful quarter means every student in your assigned cohort completes their weekly app objectives, passes the Test2Pass mastery assessment for all life-skills modules, and 90% report positive relationships with you. Falling short on any of these three metrics means the role's expectations have not been met. During your first year you will internalize the operational framework; once you demonstrate consistent ability to uphold standards, advancement to Lead Guide becomes possible, where you mentor incoming hires while continuing direct student work.
If you prefer conventional classroom instruction, need pre-packaged lesson plans, or view warmth and rigor as incompatible, this opportunity is not appropriate. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp counseling, tutoring where you refused to accept surrender, or performance work that could captivate a room of eight-year-olds, the final evaluation stage before an offer involves a full on-campus day coaching actual Alpha students. If that prospect excites you most, submit your application now.
What You Will Be Doing
Guarantee that every student in your K-8 cohort completes their weekly learning targets, achieves mastery in each life skill, and finishes the year reporting a positive relationship with you.

What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions for K-8 groups focused on public speaking, concentration, feedback culture, and other transferable competencies, customizing the established framework and creating new modules when you identify unmet needs
- Conducting daily individual and small-group motivation meetings that drive every student to 100% completion of weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot performance data, Alpha's motivational infrastructure (campus currency, competitive rankings), and your personal rapport with each student to overcome resistance
- Delivering the Test2Pass mastery-based evaluation for each life skill, then coaching students who fall short until they achieve passing standards
- Adjusting your approach across a broad developmental spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring high-energy and kinesthetic engagement to eighth graders needing candid dialogue and personal accountability
- Serving as the adult who maintains rigorous expectations and the adult students actively seek out; relational warmth creates the foundation for demanding standards, and those demands signal your confidence in their capacity
- Delivering whiteboard instruction; academic content is embedded in the applications, not delivered by you
- Developing curriculum materials from the ground up; you activate an existing framework through personal energy and narrative skill
- Passively monitoring students on devices; motivation in this model is direct, interpersonal, and persistent
- Reducing a weekly target to enable a student to reach it; when a student falls behind, the solution is supporting the student, not adjusting the goal
- Evaluating traditional homework, facilitating standardized exam preparation, or handling parent outreach; Campus Leads manage family communication, and the other activities do not exist in this environment
Guarantee that every student in your K-8 cohort completes their weekly learning targets, achieves mastery in each life skill, and finishes the year reporting a positive relationship with you.
Basic Requirements
- Available to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Scottsdale (Phoenix), AZ; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Brownsville, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX (Central, South, or The Woodlands); Park City, UT - relocation assistance provided
- Bachelor's degree in any field
- Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (classroom instruction, athletic coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program management)
- A concrete example you can articulate of motivating a K-8 student toward a challenging objective: the objective itself, your actions, and the result
- Comfort with AI managing instructional delivery while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills development
- Regular use of generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship (or in Canada for the Toronto location)
- Background in youth sports coaching, debate programs, camp leadership, theater, or extracurricular initiatives where you held direct responsibility for motivating children toward measurable outcomes
- Demonstrated personal record of exceptional performance (academic, athletic, or professional), such that maintaining rigorous standards for others reflects consistent practice, not adopted persona
- Narrative ability and commanding presence sufficient to engage a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without escalating volume
- Proven success converting disengaged or reluctant students into motivated, active contributors
