What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Coach, Alpha - $150,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site position at Alpha School campuses in New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; or Santa Barbara, CA
- Annual salary of $150,000, paid weekly. Health benefits begin on day one.
- Relocation assistance provided
Alpha leverages AI-driven 1-on-1 learning, enabling students to complete core academic work in roughly two hours daily. The remaining time is dedicated to life skills, passion projects, and meaningful personal development. At Alpha's most demanding campuses, students require more than oversight. They need a trusted mentor whose personal accomplishments establish credibility: someone capable of reading group dynamics, establishing expectations, and guiding them through resistance, distraction, and moments of doubt.
Your role is not instructional. It centers on coaching, challenging, and applying the same rigorous standards you've applied to yourself. Forty percent of your time involves direct 1-on-1 and small-group coaching to identify obstacles and establish ambitious targets. Another forty percent is spent facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery rather than engagement alone. The final twenty percent is dedicated to setting each day's tone: purposeful openings that build a culture where mediocrity is unacceptable.
The trajectory here emphasizes depth over advancement. You begin by mastering Alpha's approach and earning student trust. Within months, you become the person students allow to push them beyond their perceived limits. The payoff isn't a title change. It's witnessing a student who struggled with eye contact in September deliver a confident presentation to adults in May.
If you've been seeking a way to leverage your elite background beyond personal achievement, submit your application now.
What You Will Be Doing
- Conducting 1-on-1 and small-group coaching using Coachbot analytics and student progress metrics to identify obstacles, establish ambitious targets, and ensure accountability for execution
- Facilitating structured life-skills workshops designed for mastery, drawing on credible stories from your own elite background, and evaluating mastery via Alpha's Test2Pass system
- Establishing the campus cultural tone each morning with focused kickoffs that reinforce high-performance standards
- Monitoring student progress continuously and modifying coaching approaches based on data rather than intuition
- Developing trusted mentor relationships with students and their families through consistent high standards and documented motivation strategies
- Creating lesson plans, developing curriculum, or grading student work (Alpha's academic model manages instruction; you manage motivation)
- Delivering lectures to classrooms of 30 students (your focus is high-touch coaching in small settings, not large-group teaching)
- Supervising other staff or pursuing an administrative career path (this role centers on direct student impact, not organizational management)
- Attending faculty meetings or navigating institutional bureaucracy (your time remains dedicated to students)
- Reducing standards to meet performance targets (if a student achieves 99%, your task is determining what prevented 100%)
Lead exceptional student motivation, development, and life-skill mastery at Alpha's most demanding campuses.
