What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Coach, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site at Houston, TX campuses — Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands (relocation assistance available)
- Weekly pay at $100,000 annually. Full health, dental, and vision coverage starts day one
Alpha operates differently from conventional schools. Students complete a full academic day in roughly two hours using adaptive software. No classroom lectures. No printed textbooks. Your role covers what technology cannot: guiding Pre-K through 8th grade students in essential life skills such as public speaking, concentration, and peer feedback. You'll spend half your time facilitating structured, hands-on workshops built from playbooks and narrative techniques. The remaining time is spent in individual or small-group sessions, where you analyze student performance through Coachbot analytics and challenge them to achieve 100% of weekly objectives. Mastery is validated through Test2Pass assessments, not participation metrics.
During your first year, you'll manage a student cohort and internalize Alpha's methodology: life skills workshops, motivational coaching, and mastery-driven evaluation. Once you consistently guide every student to 100% goal completion while maintaining satisfaction scores above 90%, advancement to Lead Guide becomes possible—a role where you mentor fellow Guides while remaining engaged with students. Those who excel here don't simply influence individual trajectories; they define campus culture.
If you've invested years coaching, counseling, or mentoring young people and wanted to eliminate traditional instruction to concentrate on genuine development, this opportunity aligns with that vision.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skills workshops for Pre-K–8 students covering public speaking, focus, teamwork, and feedback exchange (project-based and interactive)
- Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching sessions to review student performance in adaptive learning platforms (via Coachbot analytics), establish goals, and drive them toward 100% weekly completion
- Overseeing and scoring Test2Pass assessments to verify genuine mastery of life skills rather than simple attendance
- Adjusting your approach across diverse age groups, from Pre-K learners requiring dynamic, kinetic engagement to 8th graders needing direct accountability conversations
- Cultivating authentic connections with each student so they're willing to receive guidance through challenges, distractions, and moments of uncertainty
- Teaching traditional academic content or giving lectures (core subjects are learned through adaptive technology, not instructor-led lessons)
- Creating original lesson plans or designing curriculum (Alpha supplies life skills frameworks; your role is to animate them through energy and narrative)
- Handling parent communication or administrative tasks (Campus Leads manage those areas; you concentrate on student coaching)
- Assessing homework or preparing students for standardized tests (these elements are absent from Alpha's model)
- Operating independently (you collaborate with Lead Guides, Campus Leads, and colleagues who provide feedback and mutual accountability)
Guarantee that every student in your cohort develops a love of learning, achieves mastery in critical life skills, and completes 100% of their academic objectives through adaptive learning technology.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- Minimum 3 years working directly with Pre-K–8 students (in teaching, coaching, counseling, or youth program management)
- Demonstrated experience motivating or coaching Pre-K–8 students toward academic, behavioral, or extracurricular objectives, with at least one concrete example you can articulate (the objective, your approach, and the result)
- Regular use of generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
- Available to work on-site at Alpha's Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands location (relocation assistance offered)
- Authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
- Background in youth sports coaching, camp coordination, or after-school program leadership where you held direct responsibility for motivating children toward measurable goals
- History of personal accomplishment (academic distinctions, competitive sports, or leadership positions demanding sustained high performance)
- Innate storytelling skills: you can maintain the attention of a room full of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to raise your voice
- Success re-engaging disinterested or reluctant students and converting them into active contributors
