This is not a teaching role. This is about motivation.

The most meaningful support you can offer a student who reached 99% of their target is to refuse to accept it as complete. If that expectation feels uncomfortable, this role is not for you. If it energizes you because maintaining high standards demonstrates your confidence in a student's ability to succeed, continue reading.

At Alpha, academic learning happens through AI-driven applications. No traditional lectures. No textbooks. Approximately 60% of your time is dedicated to facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions on topics like public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback exchange. Around 30% involves meeting with students individually or in small clusters, analyzing their advancement via Coachbot data, and driving each toward their weekly application targets. The remaining 10% consists of performance analysis that informs the following week's coaching strategy. You will not follow a rigid script; sessions provide a framework, and those who excel in this position refine them and create additional content when needed.

A successful semester means at least 90% of your cohort reaches their weekly application targets, demonstrates quantifiable life-skill improvement on Test2Pass, and rates their experience with you at 4 out of 5 or higher. Falling short on any of these three metrics constitutes not meeting role expectations. As you demonstrate your ability to maintain standards, advancement opportunities open to Lead Guide—mentoring newer Guides while continuing to manage a cohort—and eventually to Campus Lead, overseeing an entire school and managing family partnerships.

If you prefer traditional pedagogy, expect ready-made curricula, or view warmth and rigor as incompatible, this position will not suit you. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp counseling, tutoring where you refused to let students give up, or performance experience that enabled you to engage a room of middle schoolers, the final stage before an offer is a full day on-site coaching actual Alpha students. If that prospect excites you most, submit your application today.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions for K-8 cohorts covering public speaking, concentration, feedback exchange, and other transferable competencies, refining the framework and creating new sessions when you identify missing elements
  • Conducting daily individual and small-group motivation meetings that drive every student toward their weekly application targets, leveraging Coachbot data, Alpha's incentive structures (campus currency, performance rankings), and your personal connection with each student to overcome resistance
  • Overseeing Test2Pass administration (Alpha's competency-based evaluation) for each life skill, and providing continued coaching to students until they achieve passing standards
  • Adjusting your coaching approach across diverse age groups, from kindergarteners requiring high-energy engagement and physical activity to 8th graders needing direct conversation and responsibility
  • Analyzing weekly cohort metrics in Coachbot, pinpointing students falling behind, and modifying your coaching methods for the upcoming week based on data insights

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Delivering content at a whiteboard; academic instruction is embedded in the applications, not in your delivery
  • Creating a complete curriculum without guidance; you begin with an established framework and personalize it with your energy and narrative skills
  • Passively monitoring students on devices; motivation in this environment is proactive, individualized, and persistent
  • Working through administrative layers to secure support for struggling students; when a student needs additional coaching time, you decide and implement immediately
  • Evaluating assignments, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling family communications; Campus Leads manage parent interactions, and the other tasks do not exist in this model

Student Learning Coach Key Responsibilities

Guarantee that every student in your K-8 cohort achieves their weekly learning targets, demonstrates mastery of each life skill, and concludes the year expressing genuine appreciation for you.

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (classroom instruction, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program management)
  • A concrete example you can articulate of driving a K-8 student toward a challenging objective: the objective itself, your actions, and the result
  • Comfort allowing AI to deliver instructional content while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills development
  • Authorization to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Background in youth sports coaching, debate instruction, camp leadership, theater, or extracurricular programs where you held direct responsibility for motivating students toward defined objectives
