What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Coach, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site at Alpha's Houston-area campuses: Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands (relocation assistance available)
- $100,000 annual compensation, distributed weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage begins immediately
Alpha operates outside conventional school models. Students complete a full academic day in roughly two hours using adaptive technology. No classroom lectures. No traditional textbooks. Your role centers on what software cannot replicate: developing life competencies in Pre-K through 8th grade students—public speaking, sustained attention, feedback exchange. Half of each day involves facilitating hands-on skill-building sessions using prepared frameworks and narrative techniques. The remainder is spent in one-on-one or small-group settings, where you examine student progress through Coachbot analytics within adaptive platforms and guide them toward achieving 100% of weekly objectives. Mastery is validated through Test2Pass evaluations, not effort-based grading.
During your first year, you'll guide a dedicated student cohort and internalize Alpha's operational model: life competency sessions, individual motivation meetings, mastery-based evaluation. Once you consistently hold every student accountable to full goal completion while maintaining satisfaction ratings above 90%, advancement to Lead Guide becomes accessible—a role where you mentor fellow Guides while remaining active with students. Top performers don't merely influence individual trajectories; they define campus-wide culture.
If your background includes years of coaching, counseling, or mentoring young people and you've wished to eliminate traditional instruction in favor of genuine developmental work, this opportunity is designed for you.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life competency workshops for Pre-K–8 students covering public speaking, focus, teamwork, and feedback skills (experiential and project-driven)
- Conducting daily individual and small-group coaching conversations where you analyze each student's adaptive learning progress via Coachbot analytics, establish targets, and guide them to complete 100% of weekly objectives
- Overseeing and assessing Test2Pass evaluations to verify genuine life skill mastery rather than simple attendance
- Adjusting your approach across developmental stages, from Pre-K learners requiring energetic, kinesthetic engagement to 8th graders needing direct communication and personal responsibility
- Cultivating authentic connections with every student so they trust your guidance through moments of resistance, distraction, or uncertainty
- Presenting lectures or traditional subject-matter instruction (core academics are delivered through adaptive software, not direct teaching)
- Creating original lesson plans or curriculum materials (Alpha supplies structured life skills frameworks; your role is to execute them with presence and narrative skill)
- Handling parent communication or administrative duties (Campus Leads manage these areas; your focus remains on student development)
- Evaluating assignments or preparing for standardized testing (these elements don't exist in Alpha's model)
- Operating independently (you collaborate within a campus team including Lead Guides, Campus Leads, and colleagues who exchange feedback and mutual accountability)
Guarantee that each student in your cohort develops a love for learning, achieves mastery of core life competencies, and reaches 100% of their academic targets through adaptive learning platforms.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- 3 years of direct experience working with Pre-K–8 students (in teaching, coaching, counseling, or youth program management roles)
- Demonstrated experience coaching or motivating Pre-K–8 students toward academic, behavioral, or extracurricular objectives, with at least one concrete example you can articulate (including the objective, your approach, and the result)
- Regular use of generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
- Availability to work on-site at Alpha's Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands location (relocation assistance provided)
- Authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
- Background in youth sports coaching, camp facilitation, or after-school programming where you held direct accountability for motivating children toward measurable outcomes
- History of personal achievement (academic distinctions, competitive athletics, or leadership positions requiring consistent high performance)
- Innate storytelling capability: you can maintain the attention of a group of 12-year-olds for an hour without escalating volume
- Success engaging disengaged or reluctant students and transforming them into willing contributors
