What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Coach, Alpha - $100,000/year USD position at Crossover?
- On-site in Houston, TX — campuses in Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands (we provide relocation assistance)
- $100,000 annual salary paid weekly, plus health, dental, and vision coverage starting day one
Alpha operates differently from conventional schools. Students complete a full academic day in roughly two hours using adaptive software. No traditional lectures. No textbooks. Your role centers on what technology cannot replicate: guiding Pre-K through 8th grade students in developing life skills such as public speaking, concentration, and constructive feedback exchange. You will spend half your time facilitating hands-on workshops using prepared playbooks and narrative techniques. During the other half, you meet with students individually or in small groups, analyze their adaptive learning progress via Coachbot analytics, and hold them accountable to achieving 100% of their weekly objectives. Mastery is demonstrated through Test2Pass assessments, not participation metrics.
During your first year, you will manage a cohort of students and become proficient in Alpha's approach: life skill workshops, motivational sessions, and mastery-based evaluation. Once you demonstrate the ability to hold every student to 100% goal completion while maintaining satisfaction scores above 90%, advancement to Lead Guide becomes available—a role where you mentor other Guides while remaining actively engaged with students. The most effective people in this position do more than transform individual students; they influence how an entire campus functions.
If you have years of experience coaching, counseling, or mentoring young people and have wanted to eliminate traditional instruction to concentrate on genuine development, this is the opportunity.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life skill workshops for Pre-K–8 students covering public speaking, concentration, teamwork, and constructive feedback (project-based and interactive)
- Conducting daily individual and small-group motivational sessions where you analyze each student's adaptive learning app progress (via Coachbot analytics), establish objectives, and hold them accountable to completing 100% of their weekly targets
- Overseeing and evaluating Test2Pass assessments to verify students have genuinely mastered each life skill, beyond simple participation
- Adjusting your coaching approach across a broad age spectrum, from Pre-K students requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing direct communication and accountability
- Cultivating authentic relationships with each student so they trust you sufficiently to receive coaching through resistance, distraction, and uncertainty
- Delivering lectures or traditional academic instruction (students master core subjects through adaptive applications, not direct teaching from you)
- Creating lesson plans or curriculum independently (Alpha supplies life skills playbooks; your responsibility is to execute them with energy and narrative skill)
- Handling parent communication or administrative duties (Campus Leads manage those areas; you remain focused on student development)
- Evaluating homework or preparing students for standardized testing (neither exists in this environment)
- Operating independently (you are part of a campus team including Lead Guides, Campus Leads, and colleagues who provide feedback and mutual accountability)
Guarantee that every student in your cohort enjoys school, develops essential life skills, and achieves 100% of their academic objectives through adaptive learning software.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- 3 years working directly with Pre-K–8 students (in teaching, coaching, counseling, or youth program management)
- Demonstrated experience motivating or coaching Pre-K–8 students toward academic, behavioral, or extracurricular objectives, including at least one concrete example you can articulate (the objective, your actions, and the result)
- Regular use of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
- Availability to work on-site at Alpha's Central Houston, South Houston, or The Woodlands campus (relocation assistance available)
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
- Background in youth sports coaching, camp coordination, or after-school program management where you held direct responsibility for motivating children toward concrete goals
- History of significant personal achievement (academic distinctions, competitive athletics, or leadership positions requiring sustained excellence)
- Innate storytelling capability: you can maintain the attention of a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to raise your voice
- Proven ability to motivate disengaged or reluctant students and convert them into active contributors
