Database Platform Engineer

Position: Database Platform Engineer

Type: Full-time position

Compensation: $160K–$300K per year

Role Responsibilities

• Own the performance, scalability, and reliability of production database systems.
• Design, scale, and maintain high-availability Amazon RDS (MySQL) clusters.
• Optimize queries, indexes, and schemas to support low-latency workloads at scale.
• Build and maintain observability for database health, including monitoring, alerting, and performance dashboards.
• Manage backups, restores, failovers, and disaster recovery processes.
• Collaborate with engineers to improve data models, migrations, and query patterns.
• Introduce automation for routine database operations such as patching, scaling, and parameter tuning.
• Enforce security best practices, including IAM roles, encryption, auditing, and least-privilege access.
• Partner with product and infrastructure teams to plan for capacity growth and major launches.

Requirements

• Strong experience managing production relational databases, primarily MySQL.
• Strong SQL skills with hands-on experience in query optimization and index tuning.
• Experience with Amazon RDS, including parameter groups, Multi-AZ, read replicas, and Aurora.
• Solid understanding of database internals, including transaction isolation, locking, and replication.
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
• Experience working with monitoring and observability tools like CloudWatch or Datadog.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills with the ability to deep dive into performance issues.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
