Position: Database Platform Engineer

Role Responsibilities
- Own the performance, scalability, and reliability of production database systems.
- Design, scale, and maintain high-availability Amazon RDS (MySQL) clusters.
- Optimize queries, indexes, and schemas to support low-latency workloads at scale.
- Build and maintain observability for database health, including monitoring, alerting, and performance dashboards.
- Manage backups, restores, failovers, and disaster recovery processes.
- Collaborate with engineers to improve data models, migrations, and query patterns.
- Introduce automation for routine database operations such as patching, scaling, and parameter tuning.
- Enforce security best practices, including IAM roles, encryption, auditing, and least-privilege access.
- Partner with product and infrastructure teams to plan for capacity growth and major launches.
Requirements
- Strong experience managing production relational databases, primarily MySQL.
- Strong SQL skills with hands-on experience in query optimization and index tuning.
- Experience with Amazon RDS, including parameter groups, Multi-AZ, read replicas, and Aurora.
- Solid understanding of database internals, including transaction isolation, locking, and replication.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
- Experience working with monitoring and observability tools like CloudWatch or Datadog.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills with the ability to deep dive into performance issues.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
