What are the responsibilities and job description for the Packaging Designer position at Creative Circle?
Our retail client is seeking an experienced Packaging Production Artist to help operationalize newly established PDQ/Shipper standards across multiple product categories. This HYBRID freelance role will be 40 hours a week for 4-6 months, and focuses on creating consistent, scalable packaging solutions that improve store execution, customer experience, and cost efficiency.
Packaging Production Artist Responsibilities
- Define standard PDQ/Shipper sizes and shapes by product category
- Create detailed packaging specs (size, weight, material requirements)
- Build a PDQ/Shipper library by category
- Cross reference sizes across categories to drive efficiencies and volume pricing
- Use existing samples for accurate measurements
- Recommend box size adjustments to improve efficiency (e.g., string lights, pathway, ornaments)
- Design and optimize PDQ/Shippers for new and existing products
- Create dielines, drawings, prototypes, and technical specs
- Apply brand graphic standards to each product category
- Identify cost saving opportunities
- Partner cross functionally with Brand Packaging, QC, Sourcing, and Buying
- Ensure packaging meets quality, durability, and transit testing requirements
Packaging Production Artist Requirements
- 5 years of experience in Packaging Engineering or Design, ideally in retail
- Strong knowledge of corrugate, folding cartons, and labeling systems
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
In this position, you may have access to client or customer systems, confidential and/or proprietary information or data. This position is onsite and requires you to work closely with other individuals in a collaborative team environment.
