Job Summary
The Procurement Manager is responsible for leading all procurement and supply chain operations to ensure uninterrupted production and material availability. This role owns supplier performance, procurement strategy, and team execution across a highly complex, multi-stage supply chain.
Production stopping due to procurement is unacceptable. This position exists to ensure it never happens.
The environment involves components that move through layered manufacturing and finishing processes across multiple suppliers before reaching the facility. Success in this role requires proactive planning, decisive problem-solving, strong supplier relationships, and the ability to manage complexity without error.
Job Responsibilities
Supply Chain Strategy & Planning
Develop and execute procurement strategies aligned with operational and production goals
Forecast material requirements based on production schedules and build plans
Establish and maintain warehouse minimum stock levels
Anticipate demand changes and adjust purchasing proactively
Build contingency plans for critical components and single-source suppliers
Communicate supply risks or constraints to leadership immediately
Supplier Management
Own supplier relationships and remain fully accountable for supplier performance
Evaluate, qualify, and onboard new suppliers
Conduct supplier performance reviews and maintain scorecards
Enforce quality, delivery, and responsiveness commitments
Develop strategic partnerships with key suppliers for priority support
Identify and mitigate supplier risks, including capacity and financial stability
Manage supplier disputes and resolve issues decisively
Pricing & Cost Management
Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts
Drive year-over-year cost reductions through negotiation, consolidation, and process improvement
Perform total cost of ownership analysis
Review and validate supplier quotes and invoices
Track pricing trends and market conditions
Partner with Finance on spend analysis and cost categorization
Delivery & Logistics Coordination
Ensure on-time delivery aligned with production schedules
Track components through multi-stage manufacturing and finishing processes
Manage lead times and communicate realistic expectations internally
Expedite orders as needed to prevent production delays
Coordinate inbound logistics and freight when required
Partner with Warehouse on receiving and inventory optimization
Problem Solving & Escalation
Resolve supply chain issues quickly and decisively
Identify root causes of recurring issues and implement permanent solutions
Prioritize competing demands and make effective trade-off decisions
Escalate risks early to avoid surprises
Coordinate with Quality on supplier defects and incoming inspection issues
Ensure supplier credits are obtained for shortages or quality failures
Team Leadership & Development
Build, lead, and develop a high-performing procurement team
Assign supplier portfolios and hold team members accountable
Coach and mentor team members on negotiation and supplier management
Establish KPIs aligned with business objectives
Foster a culture of urgency, ownership, and continuous improvement
Process & Systems
Build and document scalable procurement processes
Establish purchasing controls and approval workflows
Partner with Finance on 3-way match processes (PO, receipt, invoice)
Lead ERP procurement requirements, workflows, and reporting
Implement supplier performance tracking and reporting tools
Continuously improve processes to reduce cost, delays, and errors
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
5 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain
2 years of management or leadership experience
REQUIRED: Experience working in an automotive production/manufacturing environment
Proven success managing supplier relationships and enforcing accountability
Strong negotiation skills with demonstrated cost savings results
Experience managing complex, multi-stage supply chains
Experience building or improving procurement processes and systems
Strong written and verbal communication skills
High attention to detail and organizational skills
Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Excel
Strong sense of urgency and ownership
Decisive, solutions-oriented problem solver
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with custom or low-volume automotive manufacturing
Familiarity with paint, finishing, or multi-stage component processes
ERP implementation or optimization experience
Logistics and freight coordination experience
APICS certification (CPIM, CSCP) or similar
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or related field
