Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Collections Specialist to join their healthcare team. This role is responsible for managing medical billing and collections processes, ensuring accurate and timely recovery of outstanding accounts. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical coding, billing procedures, and effective communication skills to resolve unpaid claims. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the financial health of the organization while delivering excellent service to patients and insurance providers.
Job Responsibilities
Contact insurance companies, patients, and third parties to follow up on unpaid or delayed claims Review and analyze medical records, billing statements, and insurance documentation for accuracy and completeness Utilize EMR and EHR systems to update patient information and track collection activities Apply knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10 coding standards to process and resolve claims Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies by coordinating with healthcare providers and insurance carriers Maintain detailed documentation of collection efforts and communications Stay current on medical billing regulations, coding updates, and insurance policies Assist patients with account inquiries and resolve billing or medical record issues Support off-site medical billers and coders with additional tasks as needed
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and collections within a healthcare setting Strong knowledge of medical terminology and coding systems (CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10) Experience working with EMR and EHR systems Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to analyze billing data and resolve discrepancies efficiently Familiarity with medical office procedures preferred Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Knowledge of healthcare billing regulations is a plus High school diploma or equivalent required Ability to commute to Chicago, IL (in-person role)
