What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Operating Officer (COO) position at Crawford Thomas Recruiting?
Chief Operating Officer (COO) – Multi-Site Interventional Psychiatry
Salary: $175,000 – $225,000 Base Performance Bonus
Location: Pasadena
Reports To: Physician Owner / CEO
Position Overview
Our client is a premier, physician-owned interventional psychiatric practice leading the way in advanced mental health treatments. As the practice continues to expand its footprint, we are seeking a sophisticated Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead all non-clinical operations.
The COO serves as the strategic "bridge" between the Physician Owner’s vision and the day-to-day execution across multiple clinical sites. You will lead an organization of 50 employees, overseeing everything from high-level financial forecasting and payer negotiations to the "boots-on-the-ground" logistics of new facility build-outs.
STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP PILLARS
Scalable Infrastructure: Translate clinical priorities into robust operational systems. You own the "playbook" for geographic expansion, ensuring consistency in patient experience and operational efficiency as new sites are launched.
Financial & Risk Management: Partner with the CEO on budgeting and forecasting while managing commercial leases, site selection, and relocations. You will oversee the P&L with a focus on improving margins and operational readiness.
Payer & Referral Relations: Lead high-level relationships with major payers and strategic referral partners (e.g., Kaiser). You will oversee the billing and intake lifecycle to ensure a friction-less patient journey.
Compliance & Governance: In tandem with legal counsel, you will navigate the complex landscape of California labor laws, healthcare compliance, and accreditation requirements.
Brand & Market Positioning: Oversee marketing, digital presence, and community outreach strategies to strengthen the practice’s position as a leader in interventional psychiatry.
Required Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree required (MBA, MHA, or MPH).
Experience: 10 years of progressive healthcare leadership, specifically within physician-owned or multi-site private practice environments.
Scale Expertise: Proven track record of scaling an organization of 50 employees and managing the complexities of multi-site growth.
California Labor Law Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of state-specific employment regulations and healthcare compliance.
Interpersonal Finesse: Exceptional ability to partner with physicians and medical directors, balancing administrative accountability with clinical autonomy.
IDEAL COMPETENCIES
Systems Architect: You don't just manage departments; you build the systems that allow them to thrive.
Data-Driven: Proficiency in creating and presenting performance dashboards to executive and physician leadership.
Strategic Growth: Experience in medical office build-outs, from site selection to "doors open" readiness.
