Associate Counsel
Summary
Our client is a statewide trade association that supports professional real estate agents through legal services, public policy advocacy, education, and communications programs. They are hiring an Associate Counsel to provide legal guidance on a range of real estate-related matters, support internal committees, teach continuing education classes, and manage the organization’s legal hotline. This is a unique role that combines legal advisory work with public-facing member support and legal education.
Salary
$75K-$95K - Flexible and commensurate with experience. Includes full benefits package, professional development support, and travel reimbursement for in-state events and teaching engagements.
Job Responsibilities
Respond to member inquiries via the legal hotline in a timely and accurate manner. Teach continuing education classes to members, brokerages, and local boards either in person or virtually on topics including ethics, fair housing, contracts and forms, and legislative updates. Draft articles for the association’s magazine and other legal publications. Create legal content for the website and contribute to video-based training resources. Support and manage assigned internal committees. Stay up to date on legal developments in real estate, fair housing, agency, property management, and commercial transactions. Conduct legal research and prepare internal memoranda.
Qualifications
J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and active license with the Maryland Bar. 2–5 years of legal experience, with real estate-related organization. Familiarity with fair housing, real estate brokerage, and property law preferred. Knowledge of Maryland and federal campaign finance or election law is a plus. Tech-savvy and comfortable using Microsoft Office, Westlaw, and virtual meeting platforms.

Strong customer service orientation. Confidence in public speaking and comfort delivering legal education in group settings. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Strong time management skills and consistent communication on work progress and deadlines.
