City Engineering
The City of Magnolia is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to fill the position of City Engineer within the Administration Department. This full-time, exempt role is based in Magnolia, Texas, with salary commensurate with experience.
The City Engineer is responsible for managing and executing advanced-level civil engineering work, providing strategic and economical solutions for complex issues in the design, review, and construction of city infrastructure, new developments, and related projects. Serving as the principal engineering specialist, the City Engineer oversees both existing and new utilities, streets, drainage, and development initiatives.
Key responsibilities include directing and participating in capital improvement projects, supervising complex engineering reviews, enforcing legal and contractual requirements, and guiding the performance of engineering department staff. The City Engineer will work under the general direction of the City Administrator and collaborate with the Mayor, City Council, other departments, and the public.
The ideal candidate is a results-oriented leader with a thorough understanding of municipal civil engineering and infrastructure systems. They possess strong project management skills, effective communication abilities, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. The successful candidate demonstrates sound engineering judgment, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a commitment to public service and fiscal responsibility.
- Extensive knowledge of civil engineering principles and municipal infrastructure.
- Proficiency in interpreting technical documents and overseeing project delivery.
- Experience with Texas development regulations, TCEQ requirements, and TxDOT standards.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and team-building abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (required).
- At least ten (10) years of progressively responsible professional civil engineering experience, preferably within municipal government or public works.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ supervisory or project management experience preferred.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas or ability to obtain licensure within six (6) months of hire.
- Certification as a Floodplain Manager (CFM) preferred, or ability to obtain within one (1) year.
- Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License required.
- Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
