Job Description

General Statement of Duties

Performs routine work maintaining a clean and orderly facility at the West Davidson Library branch.

Distinguishing Features of the Class

An employee in this class is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the library facility at West Davidson. This position will work up to three (3) hours a day. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Library Manager.

Illustrative Examples of Work

• Picking up litter and disposing of trash.
• Dusting and cleaning public and work areas.
• Vacuuming carpets and mopping hard surface floors.
• Sweeping outside walks.
• Dusting furniture and vacuuming of cushions and upholstered chairs.
• Washes glass surfaces including doors, windows and display cabinets.
• Thorough cleaning of the restrooms will include daily mopping of the floors.
• Cleaning of cushions and upholstered chairs throughout the library on a regular basis.
• Periodic cleaning of several high windows as well as regular cleaning of inside and outside glass surfaces.
• Notifies Library Manager I of supply needs and maintenance repairs when needed.
• Adheres to the department’s safety rules and regulations.
• Library manager will set variable hours for this position. Most cleaning must be done while the library is closed.
• Performs other related duties as required.

• Must be flexible with work hours.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational support functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
• Must be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
• Must be able to withstand continuous movement which includes lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, pushing and reaching; back and forth motion for vacuuming or large areas and washing a substantial number of windows.

Education and Experience

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and custodial experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid North Carolina Driver License.
