Job Description
Provides responsible clerical and administrative support to the Parks & Recreation Department.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class is responsible for providing clerical and administrative support to the Parks & Recreation department. This position takes incoming calls, provides assistance to staff and the general public, and performs routine administrative duties, for example purchase orders, pay vouchers and record keeping. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Parks & Recreation Director.
Illustrative Examples of Work
Performs routine clerical functions (i.e. takes incoming calls, assists caller or forwards to appropriate staff member, maintains records and maintains reports and spreadsheets.)
Performs routine administrative functions (i.e. invoice reconciliation, pay vouchers, purchase orders).
Prepares forms, letters, reports and correspondence.
Assists with ordering supplies, equipment and items for office administration as well as parks, events and activities, obtains quotes and general product information.
Adheres to the department’s safety rules and regulations.
Performs other related duties as required.

Must have good organizational and record-keeping skills
Ability to maintain up-to-date records.
Must have clerical/ receptionist skills to include: typing, data entry, filing, Microsoft Word applications, telephone and computer skills.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing; use tact in working with the public, elected officials, other professionals and staff.
Ability to perform basic accounting functions.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to perform the basic life operational support functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
This position is of a sedentary nature, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
Worker is required to have close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, performing accounting and transcription, operate a computer terminal, visually inspect small defects or parts, operation or inspection of machines, use measurement devices and assemble or fabricate parts at distances close to eyes.
Worker is subject to noise.
Worker is in contact with potentially infectious bodily fluids during the performance of his/her duties.
Education and Experience
Associates degree, or Graduation from high school with vocational or technical training in Microsoft Word and Excel. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience in administrative office support, or secretarial / customer service work.
Licenses and Certifications
Must have valid North Carolina Driver License.
