We are seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to manage all aspects of mechanical, electrical, and propulsion systems aboard our vessel. This hands-on leadership role involves overseeing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting systems, and ensuring safe and efficient vessel operations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all propulsion, auxiliary, and electrical systems onboard.
- Lead the engineering team, assigning tasks, mentoring junior crew, and ensuring compliance with safety and maintenance protocols.
- Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on marine diesel engines, generators, pumps, hydraulics, HVAC, and other vessel systems.
- Monitor fuel, oil, water, and other critical fluid levels, ensuring proper operation and documentation.
- Maintain the vessel’s Planned Maintenance System (PMS), updating logs and reports in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Collaborate with the captain and operations team to ensure vessel readiness and mission success.
- Conduct safety drills, participate in emergency response procedures, and support compliance with ISM and safety management systems.
- Maintain inventory of spare parts, tools, and supplies necessary for vessel maintenance and repair.
- Valid U.S. Coast Guard license: Chief Engineer (Limited)
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a similar engineering role, preferably on aluminum or steel-hulled commercial or government vessels.
- Strong knowledge of marine diesel propulsion systems, electrical systems, and shipboard machinery.
- Experience with vessel maintenance software and engineering logs.
- Ability to work independently and lead a team in a dynamic maritime environment.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- TWIC card, valid U.S. passport, and ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
- Willingness to travel or work in shipyard and offshore environments as needed.
