Accounting Manager – Telecommunications / Utilities (The Woodlands, TX)

A growing infrastructure and services organization is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee day-to-day accounting operations for its rapidly expanding fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) business. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, brings strong technical accounting expertise, and has experience supporting construction, telecom, or utilities operations.
You will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, managing project and construction accounting, improving systems and processes, and partnering cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, HR, and IT.
Responsibilities
General Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities with accuracy and timeliness
- Oversee general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis
- Prepare and review financial statements and management reporting packages
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
Project & Construction Accounting
- Track and capitalize construction-work-in-progress (CWIP) for network builds and customer installations
- Manage accounting for materials, inventory, contractor costs, and internal labor
- Partner with operations/engineering teams to maintain project financial accuracy
- Oversee the fixed asset system and depreciation schedules
Revenue & Cost Accounting
- Manage revenue recognition for residential and commercial service offerings
- Reconcile subscriber counts, billing data, and deferred revenue with billing/operations teams
- Oversee cost allocations across segments, geographies, or cost centers
- (e.g., construction, maintenance, customer service)
Payroll, Intercompany & Systems
- Support payroll GL mapping, labor allocations, and intercompany entries
- Coordinate with HR/payroll systems (e.g., Paylocity) to ensure accurate labor distribution
- Lead improvements and integrations between the ERP (NetSuite or similar) and operational systems
- Maintain a strong internal control environment and support audits/tax processes
Leadership
- Supervise and develop accounting staff
- Provide coaching, performance feedback, and process guidance
- Partner cross-functionally to support business growth and operational alignment
Requirements
- Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience
- 2 years of management or supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, fixed asset accounting, and project cost tracking
- Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with reporting/analytics tools
- Experience working in telecom, utilities, or construction is highly preferred
- CPA is a plus
- Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite or similar)
