What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator – Concrete / Foundations position at Construction Irish - USA?
We're hiring an Estimator for an established New York specialty concrete and foundations subcontractor based in Queens. The company has been operating in the five boroughs for over 35 years, self-performing support of excavation, piling, underpinning, foundations, and superstructure packages for GCs and developers across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Westchester.
This is a hands-on estimating role with direct exposure to ownership. If you know NYC concrete work — the site constraints, the union environment, the way these packages actually get priced — this is a strong seat.
What you'll be doing:
- Full takeoff and pricing of concrete, foundation, SOE and superstructure packages
- Reading and interpreting structural drawings, specs and geotechnical reports
- Quantifying formwork, rebar, embeds, cast-in-place concrete and site logistics
- Pricing labor based on real production rates and NYC union agreements
- Soliciting and leveling material and subcontractor quotes
- Preparing and presenting bid proposals, scope letters and clarifications to GCs and owners
- Supporting buyout and handover to the project team on awarded work
What we're looking for:
- 1-3 years estimating with a concrete, foundations, SOE, or structural subcontractor
- NYC market experience is essential — you understand DOB requirements, congested sites, and how city work differs from suburban
- Strong takeoff skills; experience with On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, PlanSwift or similar
- Ability to read structural and geotechnical documents without hand-holding
- Comfortable owning a bid end to end rather than working one piece of it
- Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred — equivalent experience with a strong track record is equally valued
Details:
Location: Queens, NY (in-office, with site visits as needed)
Salary: $85k - $110k plus bonus and benefits
Work authorization: must be authorized to work in the US
