Join a team where safety isnt just a priority, its a core value! We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sr. Specialist to play a critical role in advancing our commitment to zero harm, regulatory excellence, and industry-leading safety performance.

In this role, you will serve as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, partnering across the enterprise to embed Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) standards into daily operations. Youll collaborate closely with both field and corporate teams, leveraging data-driven insights to enhance safety programs, improve performance, and support regulatory compliance.

This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Serve as a strategic EH&S advisor to all levels of the organization, providing expert guidance on safety, health, and regulatory matters.
  • Partner with field and operational teams to integrate EHS requirements seamlessly into daily work practices and decision-making.
  • Act as a liaison between regulatory agencies, local EHS teams, and operational groups to ensure consistent execution of programs and compliance standards.
  • Lead and support incident investigations, including operating errors, workplace injuries, and motor vehicle eventsdriving root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve EHS programs, including Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Hazard identification and risk assessments, Energy-Based Safety (EBS) reviews and near-miss reporting and tracking
  • Deliver impactful training and communications tailored to both field personnel and leadership audiences.
  • Analyze safety performance data to identify trends and opportunities, translating insights into actionable strategies and executive-level reporting.
  • Conduct field assessments in partnership with local EHS teams to proactively identify hazards, control risks, and strengthen safety culture.
  • Lead innovative safety initiatives and projects that elevate enterprise-wide risk management and operational safety performance.
  • Provide 24/7 incident response support on a rotating basis, ensuring timely intervention, investigation, and resolution of safety events.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of related work experience or
  • Associate's Degree and 5 years of related work experience or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 8 years of related work experience.

Relevant Work Experience

  • Working knowledge of Federal, state and local regulations as pertinent to electric, gas, and steam utility work as well as relevant requirements, guidelines, and industry consensus standards, required.
  • Flexibility in handling multiple work assignments, changing priorities, and meeting deadlines, required.
  • Commitment to delivering excellence in EHS and ability to recognize the critical importance of teamwork, required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of practices in construction, utility line construction and maintenance, heavy manufacturing; demolition, and/or street infrastructure work, required.
  • Demonstrated experience with incident investigations, root cause analysis, report writing and documentation, and corrective actions identification and implementation, required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities
  • Well organized, detail oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments

Licenses and Certifications

  • Driver's License Required
  • Other: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), preferred
  • Other: Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), preferred
  • Other: Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), preferred

Physical Demands

  • Ability to respond to system emergencies
  • Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
  • Perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
  • Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
  • Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses

Additional Physical Demands

  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
